that RG 1984 final was an absolute classic. There was no choking. Mac came down from his stratospheric levels in the first 2 sets, especially a dip in serving %. But he was still playing well in the last 3 sets. Lendl did great to play at a high level and make his comeback.

Absolute insult to it to compare with 2004 FO final and 2020 USO final

If this is replayed, Novak, Roger and Rafa need to be shown commentating mystery science theatre style. I would pay to watch that. Even better if Roger and Rafa were ribbing Novak for allowing this to happen. Congrats to Thiem though. Zverev’s thousand yard stare looked like he was just realizing what had happened and the immense regret at his chances. Hard not to feel for him.

Seems about right. The huge difference between big 3 and nextgen is their clutchness on big points and their ability to see out a match when they're ahead. Nextgen are incapable of both. I've never seen so many players get so nervous when they're ahead. The final yesterday was hilarious. 2 players incapable of holding serve in key moments and making basic unforced errors.

Too me till this day USO 2012 was the worst quality Slam final since I started watching Tennis. Didn't watch this but surely looks like pretty bad stuff. So probably will watch and decide whether this match outdid USO 12 Final or not.

Anyway congrats Thiem. Very well deserved Slam after making four Slam Finals. I didn't expect you struggle so much against Zverev.

I'm just getting round to watching this dismal s**tshow in full and it's not failing to disappoint even with the lowest of the low expectations. Zod did play well the first two sets though, credit where it's due.

I don't think I've ever heard JMac so depressed commentating a major final.

I was actually rooting for Zod that's how much I despise Tim and all he has come to represent, or not represent as the case may be. Nobody should be able to play as badly as Tim did and still win a major final. Just woeful.

This match is on Thiem's racket for sure.

Zverev has played badly on his way to the final (dropped six sets to the likes of Anderson, Nakashima, Mannarino, Coric, and PCB). Only reason he got there was because the two favorites of that half lost early and due to some fairly impressive choking by PCB.

Thiem on the other hand... while he hasn't played perfectly, he's been cruising through his tougher draw of next gen prospects like FAA, ADM, and Medvedev (as well as a Cilic who found his old form for a set and a half) and has only dropped one set. Granted, he wasn't particularly stunning in the Medvedev match but I was impressed by his mental fortitude there. I don't think he'll let Zverev run away with this one.

It's still very possible that Zverev could steal a set but this match - on paper - shouldn't be going more than four.

Still haven't watched this Final which is a rarity for me. Empty stadium Slam just doesn't feel real. I watched two Shap matches entire tournament.

On paper this seemed like Sampras vs. Agassi 1990. But unfortunately with now both having injury issues it might just be Cilic/Nishikori or Hewitt/Nalbandian.
