Well deserved win for sinner and well done.
But for a world number 1 and a straight set win, there were phases in the 3rd set where the serve looked wonky, and once fritz found some energy he outhit sinner lasering some fhs and going on stretches of point wins. Thought sinner would dominate outright.

Still think tiafoe would have brought the crowd in to the game and competed better against sinner than fritz did.

Yeah, Tiafoe would have still lost but IMO we would have seen a more electric match and he would have won a set carried by the crowd.

Generally speaking Tiafoe is just a more creative, less predictable player which gives him more of a shot against the very best than someone like Fritz who's really a solid all-around player but just too predictable for them.

This is getting very interesting now. Alacaraz and Sinner split the 4 slams this year.

At the AO, Alcaraz can become the youngest player to win the career slam. However, Sinner can become only the 3rd guy to win 3 straight hard court slam titles(Djoker’s best run was 3 straight; something he did twice).

I will be pulling for Alcaraz at the AO(unless an American is in the final). That would be a cool record for Alcaraz.

aha, fun to see Sinner still like his quiet calm chill & analytical self at the outside 'panel' interview, with the trophy beside him.

Sinner is freakishly tall too... Honestly doesn't look any shorter than Fritz, who's a legit 196 cm.
wikipedia has Sinner at 192, so not a very big difference as both are very tall. Considering that not many players at 190+ won more than one Slam, Sinner is in a very small club.

Before 2017 we didn't have a single even split of two players winning two Slams, in Open Era at least. Since then this is the third time it's happened. And it could easily occur again with these two.

Sinner was unstoppable, straight-setting Fritz with authority. He earned his second major,

The 2024 US Open has sent a clear message: the two, most overrated players in recent tennis history--Alcaraz and Swiatek--were easy to defeat, and at present, lack any game at the US Open, while Sinner and Sabalenka were so focused in applying their talent, that its highly doubtful the overrated Alcaraz and Swiatek would be able to stop the inevitable.

2025 should be a fascinating year for tennis.

It's ironic how Pegula failed to serve both times in the 2nd Set to push to a 3rd set, Fritz failed to serve both times in 3rd Set to push to a 4th set.

Congratulations on your second Slam Sinner.

In winning 2024 US Open, Sinner wins his 2nd Slam and 16th title overall (placing him joint 7th in overall titles won by current players along with Gasquet, Rublev, Wawrinka). It his 6th title of the season placing him well clear at the top of the leaderboard for titles won by current players this season (the 2nd, Alcaraz, has won 3). He also becomes:

1. 1 of just 5 active players to have won multiple Slam titles (along with Djokovic, Nadal, Alcaraz, Wawrinka).
2. The 2nd player this season to win multiple Slams (after Alcaraz).
3. Just the 3rd player in the Open Era to win his 1st 2 Slams in the same season (along with Connors 1974, Vilas 1977).
4. Just the 4th player to win both hardcourt Slams in the same season (along with Wilander, Federer, Djokovic).
5. The 1st number #1 ranked player to win the US Open since Nadal in 2017.
6. The 1st Italian man to win the singles title at the US Open.
7. The 2nd Italian player to win the singles title at the US Open (after Pennetta in 2015).
8. The 1st ginger to win the US Open?
9. The 1st ginger to make the final of the US Open since Courier (1991)?

Boring AF. Anyone who watched tennis, pretty much any other era will call this a snoozefest and rightfully so.

It's just crazy bad right now. Boring, one-dimensional, fake AF. Look at Sinner's celebration after winning the USO, looks so fake and stupid.
These are dark times for tennis.

Congrats to Sinner but that was a breeze of a draw to win a slam. He can't control who he plays so a slam win is a slam win regardless but facing Draper and Fritz in a semi and finals has to be one of the easiest paths that I can remember. Those are 4th round and QF worthy opponents generally.

In any event, 2024 was Sinner's year no doubt so he's earned #1.

Federer won five in a row ('05 USO; '06 AO; '06 USO; '07 AO; '07 USO). The 2006 USO can support a trio in either direction, so does this count as one set of three in a row, or two sets?

Don’t see it happening unless he makes some drastic changes. Sinner should comfortably defend his AO title

I cant believe how people can diss me and prop current tennis up with a straight face. How do you even do that? How much mental gymnastics do you need to do to genuinely convince yourself that today's tennis is worth watching? Sinner vs Fritz in a US Open? I barely scooped up the energy to watch the Championship point.

Yah man, Jannik delivered as anticipated, requiring only cruise control in the main. Winning the title is special, but for the most part, dude did it without needing his best game. Outstanding stuff. Congratulations to Jannik for an excellent year / achievements to date. Taylor had good run, probably the closest he is likely to get to a GS title.

Heh, heh. People playing the violin for the good old days, when tennis was tennis. Sure, they were good times but nothing is more boring / futile than living in the past. Talented kids building careers, watching their progress is interesting, can be fun. How quickly things change, yet in some ways, remain the same. Novak won 3 of the slams in 2023, making only one GS final this year, in which 2 kids aged 23 and 21 share the spoils equally in their young careers. The middle generation left licking its wounds again, no change there.

...the middle two generations. Zverev and Dimitrov are not in the same tennis generation. Lost Generation and whatever we're calling the next mostly useless group. At least that group has Med, who could still win a few slams.

Yah, man - lazy of me to lump them together, when seeking to differentiate them from the current youngsters. Daniil has potential, I agree, if he can keep it together.

Fritz only found his game in the middle of the third set and had unexpectedly started troubling Sinner to where he was df'ing. I do wonder if he had played like that from the beginning he could have pulled off the impossible with help from the crowd or Sinner would have found a higher gear that Fritz couldn't match, but we won't know.
Perhaps Fritz adding a coach with slam experience could help him strategize better.
