First all American semifinal in more than 18 years, since the epic SF from 2005 when Andre Agassi defeated his compatriot James Blake in a 5 setter to reach the final, before losing to the eventual champion Roger Federer.

(Thanks for correction @ghostofMecir)

These two men are also the only 2nd and 3rd Americans to have reached the USO SF stage since Andy Roddick in 2006 & Benjamin Shelton in 2023 & Tiafoe himself in 2022.
We'd be guaranteed an American finalist at USO for the first time since 2006 (Andy Roddick Lost to Roget Federer in 4).

There are plentiful of Good reasons to be hyped up about this, apart from the ones that I mentioned here, this can be the reviving moment for the American men's tennis.

Previous H2H record - Fritz leads 6-1; with the only win for Tiafoe having taken place almost a decade ago at Indian wells 2016 first round.
Although this could be a very different match.

Who will win? How many sets?

This tournament is so strange. I wouldn’t be surprised if an American wins it. Weirder things have happened so far.

I think fritz in 4! I think that significant H2H gives him the edge here. It should be a blockbuster match though and Big Foe has been playing well. When he’s on then he’s a dangerous opponent. Fritz has been solid though and I see him winning this.

Fritz is every other American's daddy. Especially Tiafoe's. He has positive H2H against all of them. I think he wins this in 4 or 5. But I'm rooting for Tiafoe if I must choose who will have better chances in a Grand Slam final.

Do we know yet if this will be the day or night session? It is suggested from Google that it might be set for the night.

Can't imagine they won't want to put two Americans on as the night match unless the other two semifinalists complain.

Fritz, can't stand Tiafoe and for the post match on court and press interviews, can't understand a word that comes out of Tiafoe's mouth

The heirs to Sampras and Agassi have arrived.....

Seriously though, I don't mind who wins, happy an American makes the final. Whoever wins it, deserves it.

Your namesake laid a beatiful egg against Botic, so these are not Mugs anymore. Fritz is actually playing well.

Tiafoe, too. That first set in Cincy wasn't bad. Popyrin also put in a decent performance.

Not every player has been playing badly this tournament.

I know some people don't like the "rowdy" USO crowd (90% djokovic fans) but I'm ALL IN for an electric atmosphere whoever gets through from this match, this is what sunday nights are all about

no one wants a dud slam final like USO 14, half the seats were empty! no buzz!

I expect hours and hours of these two trying to out hit eachother from the baseline, with Taylor finally ending up on the top side of the huge momentum shifts that will ensue.

Both are good dudes, but the only difference between them was the "clowns" comment from Foe. For this reason I will suport Taylor, but won't be sad if he loses!

Fritz v Foe is a solid R3 Armstrong match not a USO semi. And this is a solid $8 burger that I just paid $17 for.

Where is my fav Dr Raul?

Why would you buy food in the stadium? There are better restaurants around the corner for half the price.

The food in the junk food court is just as bad/expensive and at least 20 minute round trip. If you’re suggesting I leave the NTC and go to something nearby that’s ridiculous. It would take 2 hours. Why would anyone spend the time and money to come to the NTC and then take a couple of hours to eat off-site. Thanks for the suggestion though. I will head to Chinatown in a couple of weeks before the Mets game.

Maybe I'm not factoring in the time it takes to get through security during the second week. I took the subway to a nearby stop to eat and I don't think it took me two hours.

Choosing Fritz just based on H2H, though of his six wins, four were very close (3 sets in three matches, and 2 tiebreaks in another). There's a middling win and a lopsided in in there too. Tiafoe only has one win and hasn't beaten Fritz when they were both fully developed pros (his win came pretty early). Yet, I can honestly see it going either way. Tiafoe has taken advantage of a player coming down from a big win (Popyrin) and a player who had a late-career great opportunity to make a Slam final and looked a little tight because of it (Dimitrov - before the injury). So, does he take advantage again if Fritz is a little tight given the huge opportunity to make a Slam final? Possibly, but Tiafoe himself finally has some real pressure. Just like Fritz, he'll probably never get a better chance to make a Slam final and he has to know that. Unlike Fritz, he has already made a Slam SF before this USO. So, that's got to make him feel something. I think a big story will be if Tiafoe can have one of his better serving days. And if he goes one of his expected detours/walkabouts, how long will it be and how quickly can he regroup. He did a good job regrouping vs. Popyrin and Dimitrov. I just hope they both play well. Cool with either in the final.

Going Tiafoe in 4. If he can bring Fritz into the net and out of his comfort zone he can get some big points. If he stands behind the baseline and tries to outhit him like the big German bottle job did last night, it could be over quickly.

Yes, Alcaraz and Sinner need to become more dominant to prevent mugs from reaching finals.

Although they can’t do that If they keep being put on the same side of the draw.

To each their own. If you want to spend your “USO time” going out for food that’s all good. It’s time consuming and not something on my radar. I go for tennis. The food is less than secondary to my experience but that doesn’t mean it’s not important to others. I don’t line up at the booths either but people seem to enjoy spending their time doing that as well. o_O

What I really want to do is hangout with my fav Raul but I can’t find the drunkard. I’m sure he’s slumped over somewhere muttering about electric vehicles and alien abductions.
