Who has the best chance to beat Sinner or at least challenge him?
Tiafoe has the clown weapon: turning it into an absolute circus and playing shamelessly to the crowd, in an effort to psych out the shy and understated Sinner. It famously worked in Vienna a few years back, but hasn't since. But at home on Ashe, on the biggest of stages, in his once in a lifetime opportunity, you just know that if needed - and I'm pretty sure it would be needed - the Big Foe would try to steer the match onto the clown tracks. Whether 2024 Sinner would fall for it, of course, is quite doubtful...

In fact, the best chance for either of them lies in Sinner's proverbial fragility, and the wrist is indeed a concern... Together with the other 78 niggling injuries he's carrying around... If he's fully fit, or even 80% fit, these two are looking at a big ole silver platter.

Yes. This has been the case for years. This is the progression of USO final weekend shrinkflation though in addition to shrinking the product they also raised prices significantly:

1. One ticket = 2 men’s semis + women’s final added filler between matches ( 22 years)

2. One ticket = 2 men’s semis; a separate ticket for the women’s final

3. One ticket = one men’s day semi; a separate ticket for night men’s semi; a separate ticket for women’s final

I forgot when they screwed fans by separating the men’s into two sessions. Maybe 2019-ish but I’d have to give it more thought to be sure. They sold it as a good thing. :D My fav Raul is not so easily duped.
It’s kind of lucky that tennis translates to TV so well, because I don’t go to watch main draw tennis matches in person any more.

Only a recent change this year but I only go to qualifying tournaments or AMT / challengers now.

My “individual protest” means nothing to the people changing the ticketing structures and prices. They literally don’t want my money. There are a million cashed up families that will attend and pump way more money into the tournaments than I could have.

They will need to be a little bit careful appealing to cashed-up casual fans only, though. You still need a core audience of people who are actually tennis fans, otherwise the sport will become an event circus with no actual purpose other than to generate PPV and event sales like what happened to boxing.

I feel like Tiafoe isn't usually playing with a whole lot of margin over the net, but a lot of his balls tonight look dangerously close to the net. If he can keep this level of hitting up then he's got a great chance to win, but I get the sense that his level is going to drop first.

Too many corporate losers and wealthy jerks that don't really know or care about the match. It's not what it used to be.
That's obviously a big part of it - everywhere, except for maybe some tournaments in South America.

But tennis "derbies" are often disappointing when it comes to crowd engagement. For the real passion to come out, there needs to be a home favorite and an "enemy".

Tiafoe is trying out the dropper after seeming to leave it on the shelf for much of the Cincy final. Must have been watching Draper earlier today.
