Tiafoe is a better big match player than Zverev and has more variety to break Fritz’s rhythm. How can Fritz be struggling more with Tiafoe than with Zverev? This makes zero sense to me
McEnroe keeps talking about the pro Tiafoe crowd.... I keep hearing a pretty low key crowd
Same from both. This could go 5. Man, I hope so!!Clean clean clean opening game from Fritz.
Uncalled forThey're still trying to figure out which one is the American
Wow, both players going balls-out now. Great tennis. I’m actually surprised the crowd isn’t more into this, but I guess two Americans playing each is stopping the crowd from cheering two much in one direction.
Zverev has played in a lot more big matches though, the sample size is so small for Tiafoe - he's pretty much a non-factor at the other 3 slamsTiafoe is a better big match player than Zverev and has more variety to break Fritz’s rhythm.
The bigger the occasion, the better Tiafoe plays. With Zverev it’s the opposite.
Tiafoe is winning this slam, it just seems inevitable.
Feels like a proper American match, all the characteristics are still there (read: loving serve botting) but they have functional backhands and some creativity too.Same from both. This could go 5. Man, I hope so!!
I don't know, all it takes is one big upset on Sunday. No member of the American Bropack is ever winning a Major.
Dunno. I think Fritz is playing pretty well but he is just being outplayed. He and Tiafoe are pretty close in seeding and Tiafoe is handling the occasion much better and balancing the aggression and shot tolerance. He is also taking Fritz legs out with some grinding points.Fritz is way below his usual standards
Tiafoe is no Wawrinka let’s be very clear about that. Also some of the GOATs still focused on other tournaments yet Foe says only slams motivate him…You don't believe in a Wawrinka ending?

That match against Shelton earlier in the tournament was good prep for Tiafoe to play this type of match.

Definitely not impossible at this point.
Sometimes the tennis gods make a statement.

Tiafoe is playing at a high level. Fritz is 4/10. Lots of errors and serve isn't doing a ton of damage. Yet it's still close. But Fritz is feeling pressure and Tiafoe is playing freely.
Agree. But relative to their achievements Tiafoe plays up in big matches, and Zverev plays down.
They’ve played a similar amount of big US Open matches. Tiafoe has lost a few heartbreakers but they’ve usually been matches where going in he was a heavy underdog. The Fed match from a while ago is a good example. Either that or he has won. Just this US Open he has played above seed twice.
Zverev is the opposite. Some of the biggest chokes of his career, arguably his second biggest choke ever happened in New York.
Actually, if memory serves me, he already has been.I can barely believe it, Tiafoe a set away from a major final....
Actually, if memory serves me, he already has been.
Have to give Tiafoe some credit for eating into the Fritz serve earlier in the match though. Fritz got ahead and Tiafoe reeeled him back in. The guy is a demon on return in New York when he is feeling it. Fritz is more serve dominant than Tiafoe so it’s also going to be tricky for him in a big match if a returner is reading his serve and he loses his comfort zone.Tiafoe is playing at a high level. Ah yeah, forgot that match with Alcaraz went 5.Actually, if memory serves me, he already has been.
Umm... wasn't he a set away from victory in his SF two years ago?No...unless you're from the future?
True. It’s a toss up between that and the RG final where he followed up an epic comeback win in the third set by starting a 30 minute running argument with his dad in the stands, destroying all the momentum he had and winning 3 more games in the match third worst choke was the missed sitter volley on match point against Nadal at IWSecond biggest? That has to be his first.
Remind me again how many people here said Fritz in 4?

By a country mile.Second biggest? That has to be his first.
By a country mile.
Up there for biggest choke in history.
Coria (and some others) may be more extreme in terms of score progression, but the amount of yips and fear and pant-sh!tt1ng I saw in that match was unlike anything ever. And by the way, Thiem was right there with him every step of the way, chokin' away like the great ones.Coria. Tsitsipas. Yeah, still think it's Coria.
Fritz deserves to lose
he is playing wayyyyy to passivelyFritz deserves to lose

I'll take that bet and say Alcaraz wins the whole thing!!!I didn’t say but I will go with Fritz in 4.
I also have a similar feeling. His game gets two top notches up at AsheTiafoe is winning this slam, it just seems inevitable.
