Carlos Alcaraz hits out at US Open chiefs after camera complaint

Carlos Alcaraz's preparations for the US Open were disrupted as he complained about on court cameras and microphones.

The normally placid Alcaraz was not impressed when he realised there were microphones listening in to the conversations he was having with his coaching team as he prepared for his first round match against American big server Reilly Opelka.


Alcaraz was caught on the cameras appearing to question why they were recording what he was saying, with his manager Albert Molina on hand to listen to his concerns.

The world No 2 would have been concerns that some of his rivals were listening into his tactical planning and he had every right to question why the US Open officials needed to record not just his practice session but also pick up on what he was saying with his coaching team.

Article is subscription locked so I read about on a different site but cameras and microphones are everywhere these days, It's pretty difficult to be somewhere that's not recorded, especially in the US where it's rapidly becoming a police state. I don't see why it really matters personally, are they intending to feed his conversations to his opponents? Publish them where they could easily get sued for doing such a thing? Even if they did, it's still his performance on the day that matters.

For me, it's a non-story. Now he's made a fuss about it publically, I doubt very much it will happen again and they'll keep them turned off.

Because they are putting sessions on youtube and they want to monetize it so they need sound etc… im sure they all know to have private courts if they want to talk about things in secret by now

YouTube started the Sinner-Alcaraz Cinci final asking for money and in HD for quite a bit to see the match. I am glad I didn't pay to see the 25 minutes of nothing then.
