US Open Men's Final: Ticket resale market has collapsed

Imagine not wanting to go to what will still be an epic final between Med and Djokovic just cause Alcaraz isn’t there. These people clearly don’t actually care about tennis..
I understood the tickets plummeting from the SF’s to the final the year it went from a Serena v Halep final to instead being a Vinci v Pennetta final. Or the year where it went from Djokovic v Fed and instead ended up being Cilic v Nishikori. But not this year, it’s still damn good.

I remember when Djokovic lost in 19, the Finals prices skyrocketed because people were then anticipating a Nadal-Federer Final

Paying 900 USD for nosebleed seats would mean that you're just there because you're a spendthrift in search of a party.

Novak and Med fans are more circumspect,

People trying to anticipate what the final will be is just too hard and stupid. If you’re buying tickets for a slam final just be excited and happy to experience a brilliant event. These people selling these tickets are just annoying.
Personally speaking, I once got lucky enough to get men’s finals tickets in the WB ballot. I had them long before the start of the tournament and who reached the final was not even on my mind. I was so blown away to get tickets to THE WB final in the first place as they are rare as hen’s teeth!
I ended up getting Rafa in the final but he lost to Novak which was a bummer, but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. I could have sold those tickets for thousands but there was absolutely no way I was going to do that.

Damn good for tennis fans, however the majority of the crowd are casual fans having a day or night out.

True. I just don’t get how those selling tickets are acting like Medvedev v Djokovic is so hideous and don’t want to attend. Like it’s a rematch of the final 2 years ago, and Med got the upset in that one! He’s the #3 and former champ. Instead of #1 v #2 it’s #2 v #3. Still brilliant.

They acting like it went from an incredible line up like 2014 where it went from Fed v Djokovic to Nishikori v Cilic. Or 2015 where it went from Serena v Halep to Vinci v Pennetta.

Shockingly high those ticket prices. Who can afford that? If you are a hardcore tennis fan but have a middle class income - would you really spend that much money for the final? I wouldn’t and even if my favorite player is playing against another amazing player.

As it's opening day for the NFL perhaps those folks are opting to head over to West New York and watch their Giants play them Cowboys which is the featured Sunday Night Football game..
That too is a very big game...
NYC is hopping this weekend..
Terrific is going to be horrible again today..

One male player from Russia, the other from Serbia. Eastern Bloc countries. The west will never have huge interest.
could be Spanish fans selling their tickets.
Was the final 2 yrs ago sold out or filled up?

interesting. i know there's a ton of interest around alcaraz but don't get the sense non-tennis fans are all that aware of him still, certainly not like a federer-nadal. this is a pretty great finals matchup and between his victory 2 years ago and all the fan taunting etc., i would think medvedev is a pretty known quantity at this tournament at least.

500 for a decent seat at the finals doesn't seem that outrageous honestly, for what could be a real thriller.

I will never understand people who pay that much for those seats. Final or not, 500+ still seems ridiculous for an area of the stadium that will struggle to see the ball. Closer? Sure, I get it but not for nosebleed territory, I wish I had that free cash lying around. Personally I never regret my decision to sit at home with a beer and some food and nice big TV and watch the match in perfect vision with rewind capability and close ups at the low low price of free!

The upper bowl of ashe is a good experience but yeah it is nothing like being close. Last year I sat a few rows back at a Djokovic match and it was a totally different world compared to ashe.

Depends where you mean really. In the UK people know who Carlos is. He won Wimbledon; even my non tennis fan friends know of him.

People know who Carlos is in the US and everywhere the big tournaments are as well, especially if by people we mean any sports fan who also has even a moderate interest in tennis.

He's already super popular with very positive ratings and few negative ones. I always ask teaching pros which guys on the tour come up in lessons and activities, and it's Carlos by a huge margin now.

There are obvious reasons for this of course.

Medvedev and Djokovic have both been around long enough that people largely have an idea about who they are.

You can still think it'll be a good match but not worth spending $500-1000 on like Alcaraz-Djokovic would've been.

Not tennis fans obviously, Djokovic-Medvedev is one of the best US Open finals you can get right now, Medvedev could easily pull off the upset today.

I will never understand buying tickets at the far end, you get 5% of the actual experience.

"worth" is tricky obviously depending on your circumstances...but you have to think there's potential for a really epic match here as a tennis fan. i'm definitely down for a 5+ hour battle to the death.
