US Open Men's Final: Ticket resale market has collapsed

This remind me of the movie Gladiator and the famous quote " Spaniard you know why I was the best?not because I killed quickly but because the crowd loved me , win over the crowd" now i understand Djokovic's deep desire to be loved by the crowd, winning is not enough.

Yeah but that doesn't apply to sport in my view, sure popularity is good at the time but it's your achievements that stay with you. I didn't grow up watching players like Lendl or McEnroe because I was born in the 80s but I know of them because of what they achieved, I have no idea how popular they were on-court and I don't care because what mattered is what they achieved. The same will be true of Djokovic for years to come.

The ticket prices are ridiculously overpriced. But whatever, it's mostly corporates and celebrities attending. And the celebrities are paid to be there.
That can't be... I was told he is box office
He barely has a TT fanbase. And he is not a flashy player whereas Alcaraz is.

Djokovic has less fans for someone of his stature because he came after Fedal & his game is a bit less exciting than Federer/Alcaraz's

However that is not the problem as he could have still brought in big number of fans, but it takes 2 to Tango, this Medvedev is even worse and nobody wants to see Med in the final, thats the main reason why final has less excitement in many.

Djokovic vs Alcaraz would have made the final very exciting for everyone.

So many unsurprising factors.

1. Expected easy victory for Novak
2. Medvedev is Russian and plain style, personality.
3. Novak already has Slam record.
4. Week 1 of NFL

How is it an easy expected victory? For the record I definitely believe Djokovic will win but the public and linesmakers are not treating it that way

I'm a top 2% earner and I still think these tickets are expensive. Adding Hotel + Airfare from Cal just balloons up to a costly 2 ~ 2.5K affair easily. I would rather keep my mouth shut and not talk about prime seats.

It doesn't matter who plays, I would rather let that money be used when market dips.

Been beaten on forever now. No matter what Djo is trying to do stats wise, he is not someone the ATP has ever been able to pin the tour to and hold interest. We know Djo fans, and Djo's team, family, and Djo himself keep trying to promote him and make it so, but he is not liked by a large majority of tennis fans and sports fans in general. The demonstrative attitude and theatrics just the last few matches just speak volumes to it.

Carlos is the biggest thing right now and rightfully so.

Folks, Character and sportsmanship matters.

Very well said.

So nobody cares that Djokovic is going for a historical and record-extending 24th major title???

That's about right. No one cares. It's not even going to be televised on 'regular tv' in the US. You have to have cable or some access to espn to watch. Not sure if that's just no one caring about Novak, or tennis in general, or more likely, a combo of both.

In Sports only records matter, nothing else.

Look at Margaret Court, she used to speak a lot of vile nonsense but eventually her records did shine perpetually and made her relevant 50 years after her time. Even people like me who never heard of her until now are forced to look closer into her records. That is the power of numbers.

Compared to Court, we have Djokovic who speaks politically correct stuffs and is at least a fine person, now do you think Federer or Nadal will be rated ahead of him ? Nope.... losers cannot be rated ahead of winners, it never happens ....Novak has won the race and that means he is on top .... regarding fanfare, yes his game is a bit boring compared to Federer's and now compared to Alcaraz's, plus Alcaraz is young and teens/people in 20s will always resonate to guys close to them in age, like the royal kids in the royal box at wimbledon who cheer for alcaraz because nobody taught them that, their age is such that they will resonate to Carlos. This has nothing to do with character or whatever nonsense that you think Novak lacks, he doesn't, however it is numbers which your heroes lack, that is a bigger problem trust me.

Not a good idea to believe all the nonsense that is posted in Twitter. You can always buy tickets at the last minute. I bought tickets that way for both Nadal and Novak finals in the past. And ticket prices are much higher now in general

3-1 underdog yesterday moved down to 2.45 in Germany where I am.

Yeah me and my buddy (who in Canada is close to 1%) would rarely get Gold package of QF-F due to the simple fact as true fans we want a volume of quality and we get front row outside main stadium. Later rounds carry high risk of wasted time and money with dud matches.

In sports character and personality certainly matter. For stats, you are correct that even the most unliked and complete a-hats can hold them. And that Djo lacks character keeps him from being a GOAT to many. He's had plenty of opportunities to be a better sportsman and he continually fails. That is his biggest problem. Trust me.
