2013 US Open QF: [1] Novak DJOKOVIC (SRB) vs [27] Mikhail YOUZHNY (RUS)

A match thread for the QF.

Youzhny has been playing great and might cause some problems for Novak, but at the end I think Novak will win in 3 or 4 close sets.

Why did you put Youzhny's country of origin but not djokovic'?

Please close this thread, it's boring.

Thank You!

Thanks for pointing it out, but it does not really matter. Everyone know where is Novak from.

Anyway why do you think it is boring? I think it will be quite exciting and high quality match, considering how well both players have been playing and previous h2h encounters.

I know he is from Albania, but to show respect, you should put his country of origin like you did with Youzhny.

Thank You.

I appreciate your concern, but lets get back to the actual matchup.
Here is their head to head. Not as lopsided as you would expect. 5-3 in Djokovic's favor, but 3-3 on HC.

2013 Monte Carlo Clay R32 Djokovic, Novak 4-6, 6-1, 6-4

2009 Montreal Hard R16 Djokovic, Novak 6-3, 6-4
2008 Beijing Hard R16 Djokovic, Novak 7-6(3), 6-3
2007 Rotterdam Hard S Youzhny, Mikhail 3-6, 7-6(7), 7-5
2007 Marseille Hard R32 Youzhny, Mikhail 6-4, 4-6, 7-6
2006 Wimbledon Grass R32 Djokovic, Novak 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3

The volatile Serb will out grind him and win without too much trouble.

The Serb in 4. The Russian will do enough to win one set but will eventually lose to the current world #1.

If somehow the match goes to 5 sets, then the 31 old will run away with the match. Just like he did against Hewitt. Djoker will want to finish the match as early as possible.

Youzhny actually has a good record vs Novak, this one could go the distance. In a slam though, one would have to favor Novak in the end.

Djoko in 4, Youzhny will put up a stern fight and will possibly take a set.

However Djokovic's lack of errors will get to Youzhny whose UF error count will be too high.

I don't think Youzhny has enough power to hit through Djokovic, he has a lot of variety though and I definitely think he can get a set if he plays well.

It would be nice to see a competitive match, however i think it may end up like tonite's match with Rafa v. Tommy.

That would be hilarious. :)

Yes it would, but I don't think it will be that easy unfortunately. Djokovic, unlike Nadal, has to face real tough opponents in QF and SF.

Nadal's cakewalk clown draw is a disgrace and should not be allowed to happen. It is really bad for the sport to have someone just walk to the final playing only challenge level players or lapdogs. How is that possible?

The draw is random buddy.

What do you suggest they do?

Give me an intelligent suggestion instead of spewing hate.

I see Novak in straights. Not as easy as his matches until now, but I don't think Youzhny has enough gas in the tank or enough fortitude in his heart to really push Djokovic too hard.

I hope Novak was watching the Stan VS Andy match. He can't take anything for granted. If Novak brings his game face it'll be straight sets.

Who else thinks Youzhny will take a set?
He did last time they played in Monte Carlo this year. On clay. Mikhail imo is better on fast courts than clay.
If Novak does it in straight sets, he must be in some scary form.

Barring a Murray-type disaster, Djokovic will crush Youzhny.
