If Gasquet had been able to finish off Milos in straights I'd pick him. I think he will be gassed and Ferrer, despite his mediocre play of late, will grind his way through to the semis. If Gasquet can win two quick sets, however, he might be able to pull it out.

Ferru in 4. Richie has already done well to break his QF duck, but I think he'll be gassed from that 5-set slugfest.

Bother. These are my two favourite players. Ferrer's going to win, no question, but I don't know who to support! Probably Gasquet. A semifinal will mean more to him.

Gasquet doesnt have much to hurt Ferrer with. He isnt explosive enough to hit through him, and in fact Ferrer's forehand is much more powerful. He isnt any of fast, durable, fit, or consistent enough to grind with Ferrer. He isnt a true attacker, and he isnt tactically astute enough to come up with an efficient game plan how to move Ferrer around and create openings regularly. Maybe a set for Gasquet at best.

Colour me impressed that Ferrer is even here in the Quarterfinals. The way it went for him in Montreal and Cincinnati I was thinking his summer hard court season would be dismal all around but he got it together for the US Open.

Oh yeah, Ferrer in 4.

Gasquet needs to attack and shorten the points. Knowing him, though, he will stand 10 feet behind the baseline and defend.

Richard off to a great start, I see. I hope he can close this first set out quickly. His best hope is to get it done in 3.

So what happens if Gasquet hits a winner, and it goes into the stands? They let them keep the balls as souvenirs here...

Ferrer's play on hardcourt is really weird sometimes, his BH is ineffective most of the time, he's way more confident when he plays on clay.

Nadal has the opportunity to extend the Nadal-Ferrer h2h to 21-4 (4-2 in slams) or the Nadal-Gasquet h2h to 11-0 (3-0 in slams), if he wins his semi-final.

I wonder if Nadal would prefer to face Gasquet or Ferrer in the semi-final. Gasquet has never been this deep at the US Open before so may be more nervous than usual, whilst he'd want to get a bigger edge in the slam h2h with Ferrer. He is good friends with both, too.

I love him so. He makes me fangirl out. And he's French, and DAT BACKHAND ugh.

Did I tell you about the moment I had with him in Cincinnati? We were watching him and Chardy play doubles and after the match they somehow couldn't find their way off court...don't ask me how! I motioned them over to the little gate and opened it for them. There were almost no people around...it would have been the perfect time to ask for a picture, but it was our first night there, and I hadn't gotten my bearings/confidence yet so I just let him go by. My husband had to point out to me that as he was walking off into the distance I was clutching at my throat, saying Richard over and over under my breath!
