Makes me remember I have to concentrate very hard to understand English people speaking, well... English. Australians and Americans are much easier to understand TBH.

the problem with British= too many different accents, when i was living in Australian i had a Canadian friend and he could not understand when this scumbag from Liverpool was talking to him

Exactly. There was a spammer on here a few months ago and he created a few threads in Russian..

I can understand that perfectly. There was a Portuguese user the other day who was accusing me of being unpatriotic and kept posting in Portuguese. I kept replying in English and then the thread ended up being deleted. A shame, too, because the rest of the thread had some interesting points and discussions.

A lot of times in online communities when someone finds someone else who is a lot like him or her - whether they speak the same language, are from the same city etc. - he or she gets excited and wants to feel like they're in some exclusive club of their own. I've seen it a lot.

Mind you, despite my fluency I don't usually support the French in sports. Especially in football, where I find them particularly annoying. I suppose I can attribute this to the Belgian in me.

So happy to see him get this win! Aside from being tired out from another 5-setter, I'm almost happy he had to go the 2 sets up route to prove to the naysayers that he could do it. I hope this is a sign he'll have a good fall. He only made round of 32 in Shanghai and Paris last year so lots of potential points to gain. Of course he has 250 points to defend in Bangkok.

I hope he goes far in Shanghai and wins Bangkok. If he keeps this up, he'll qualify for the WTFs! :)

Wow. Just came home to find Gasquet actually beat Ferrer from 2 sets to love up and pegged back to 2 sets all. I am in SHOCK

Never thought richard would win a match like that considering his history.Really pleased for him :)

Shame Nadal will destroy him though

I'm both French and American and I support a Spaniard and a Serb  I guess I'm not big on jingoism. I react to style, talent and personality. I don't care where they come from. I like different things in different players too. I admire Seles and Azarenka for their fighting spirit for instance. Serena is the best female server and the most powerful player ever. Graf is the most elegant athlete ever.
Team sports is different, it's harder to go against your community.
ETA: but hey monfils is the most entertaining player and Gasquet has the best 1hbh. I'm not completely anti-French either!!

Makes sense. In team sports I either support Portugal or Belgium. Not much to cheer about lately, but oh well. I admire individual sports precisely because they're parables of life, success and failure. I tend to enjoy players who are strong in the mental department (Sampras, Graf, Nadal) but also very flaky and unreliable characters (McEnroe, Korda, Mandliková) for their sheer humanity. Nice to make your acquaintance, by the way.

Thank you. Yours too. I completely understand what you're saying. It's possible to like players for opposite reasons (like strength vs finesse). I'm not even sure you always know why. It's like relationships. It clicks or it doesn't.

Yeah, it's a bit like the Ancient Greek gods vs. the Judeo-Christian god. Whereas christians have to accept god's infallibility and worship him no matter what, the Greeks were actually encouraged to have "relationships" with their gods and could choose their favorite ones and ignore the ones they didn't really like. I was reading the Iliad last week and that's exactly what happens: different human beings helping or being helped by different deities. They sort of took it for granted that gods were not perfect, they behaved just like humans with superpowers. That's a bit like sports personalities nowadays. You get to choose your favorites, like a celestial buffet. And it's all based on instinct rather than fear or piety.

I like diversity. I don't like being imposed a party line or an all-encompassing authority figure. Maybe that's why I am more interested in Roman and Greek mythology than in the bible! (Despite being born in a Christian family).

Same here. Much more interested in ethics than morality. Singularity vs. universals. Hell yeah.

[Well, it wasn't the case then. This guy (who I believe is a veteran user here) was offended because I stated that Portugal wasn't exactly a "powerhouse tennis nation". Something that can hardly be argued. Mind-boggling.]

Anyway, let's hope Gasquet pushes Nadal (or Robredo, hah) to 4 sets. I would like to see him throw the kitchen sink at the Spaniard, even if he loses in the end.

Gotcha. It would be interesting to know some time what his arguments were.

so the Gasquet thread becomes the french thread ? :)
oh well..., it's not everyday Gasquet reaches a GS SF
Well we have a good reason to be happy. Generally speaking, we were more or less waiting a miracle from Tsonga...

As of now, Gasquet is undefeated in slams QF.

I see a bagel coming for Gasquet in SF. Did n't see this match. Was he on the verge of choking or Ferrer raised his level in 3rd and 4th?

Oui Gasquet!! I worked all day today and missed the match, but watched the whole Raonic match, this is a different Richard.

65% counted him out against Raonic..

85% against Ferrer..

97% will against Nadal (Robredo basically dead in the water atm)

Fact is, you just never know especially with a talented player who can catch fire at any moment.

Happy he won than Ferrer. At least the SF would be watchable since Nadal can't exactly have fun abusing Gask Backhand.

I predict Gasquet beats Nadal in 4.

(Not really a prediction, I'd just love to see Gasquet's backhand just go into a zone and hit winners over and over).

Well I would have backed Rafa when I was at Wimbledon for the final this year if he had been playing Murray. Sad though it sounds but I have been his fan for too long even though I am a Brit.

Gasquet doesnt have much to hurt Ferrer with. He isnt explosive enough to hit through him, and in fact Ferrer's forehand is much more powerful. He isnt any of fast, durable, fit, or consistent enough to grind with Ferrer. He isnt a true attacker, and he isnt tactically astute enough to come up with an efficient game plan how to move Ferrer around and create openings regularly. Maybe a set for Gasquet at best.

would be so much better if people would just add 'imo' at the end of posts instead mistaking their opinions for facts.

It kind of annoy me since I had sent him yesterday some infos on me to avoid this. Of course I am going to send a mail to him.

Hope Gasquet pulls the upset again. But Nadal is in such a form, I don't know what or who will derail him from his road to the title. :/

by the way i'm sorry even if i should not... i haunted the forum last year i was posting a lot in the ATP section, they thought i was posting too much, then i started trolling more and more and obviously got banned forever  anyway it's a shame that new members have to pay the price

Gasquet was beating Nadal when they were 10 to 12 years old, now it's a different story.

Not many sets won by the frenchman since they are playing as pro.

You're right, you shouldn't feel sorry. It's more the fault of few users who despite the lack of any proof, will rather think that it has to be the same person again. They should meet BP, 1-3-0 or few people like this to see what actual flaming is about.
Yup, that's a classic. Damn, was Gasquet some kick-arse kid! It is a pity he peaked too early. And it is nice to see Nadal serving without all the ceremonial check up of his own body.
Gasquet hasn't changed a lot TBH. However, Nadal barely plays the same today.

Three people on this topic have been banned on classim.
Got Hélix by mail. Dude basically told me that I was banned because I may or may not be faking my ID despite the fact I sent them my licence number, because I post a lot, and because they're trying to choose who will be there or not even if you don't do anything against the rules. So he's wondering if I may or may not be the holder of my own licence, which has absolutely nothing to do with having multiple accounts or not. Especially since at least someone at Classim actually read the threads here and knows it.
Told him Tipsa was here as well as I am, so he perfectly knows we're not the same person and we're here. Sent him another mail to see if he's going to reply to it or not. I don't even want to have the approval of the mass, I just want my name to be cleared.

Well it's derailing the thread a bit.

that's a shame, maybe send him the link of this actual conversation between us and he'll be convinced ? or the situation is just hopeless ?

By the way i'm sure Helix is not the one who banned you... classim is full of talibans, probably insecure people in real life trying to act like tyrants on the internet

Anyway, yeah if it can help just send him this link of our conversation ... or maybe he can contact the moderator of Tennis Warehouse to ask if we share the same IP ? that's going very far

Lukhas

Legend
Nah, it's not him who banned me, I could see it on what was left of my profile page. Got banned by the moderator who strated the thread that was posted earlier. But he doesn't want to do anything about it, which is a shame. I had linked our profile pages @TT to him, so he is/was few clicks away from seeing where and what we were writing about here. But since someone else who was suspected to be you was banned despite providing his licence number and occupation too, so I guess it really is hopeless.

Even if they had the proof I have the same IP here and at Classim ad that ours are different, they can still say I'm ban avoiding through the use of proxies. Even if that would mean I'm schizophrenic enough to have multiples accounts at the same time on Tennis Bazar, Classim and TT. Well, there's one person who actually believes at least one part of the equation.

I think Hélix is a nice guy, but he's passive about it and his justification isn't convincing by any means. At least two people get banned and that despite trying to prove their innocence. Pretty lame TBH, doesn't give a nice image. EDIT: Especially since he tries himself to see if some people the same person, but then throws it throughout the window. He doesn't seem to be willing to go against his moderators in order to keep the "status quo".

EDIT2: And we have some highlights of the match.

Pretty much a 1HBH clinic really...
