I'll be very very surprised if Robredo has even returned to earth after beating Federer, never mind being able to challenge Nadal.

Even Clarky knows this will be straight sets.

Robredo is playing very well and he just took down the 5 time US Open champ yesterday. Rafa will have to play his best to have a chance, no? Try to make right decisions in right moments. Reaching the QFs of US Open is amazing for me, I mean for Rafa. Will try best to beat Tommy.

I think I would like it to be a four-setter, though.

How is Tommy feeling? I'd heard he'd been hurt after the Evans match, even though last night he sure wasn't playing like it.

Nadal will keep hitting heavy top spin forehand to robredo's backhand side.
Robredo will stand far from baseline as always.
He will struggle Nadal's heavy shots.
Nadal will beat him in 3sets. Since nadal is not much of error making player.
Even though robredo took fed out in 3sets he has no tools for nadal.
Both guys stand far from baseline. But robredo stand far more.
Nadal's shot has more spin and pace and angle.
Nadal is stronger and faster.
It will be no hard game for nadal.

I don't know that, and I doubt it will be. Tommy is playing really well right now, and if Coleslaw can trouble Nadal as much as he did, I don't see why Tommy can't.

If Tommy isn't feeling 100%, then this will be 3 fairly easy ones for Nadal. They are playing DC together next week.

He troubled Rafa so much that he didn't even break his serve once in the 4 set demolition.:)

Why is this match even being played? Why doesn't BP's lackey just default and save us from about 2 hours of boredom?

Have to say, Nadal really kind of lucked out here IMO. This is a match I expect him to take in three.

I'd say Nadal in 4, wouldn't mind Robredo winning though.

Isn't it interesting seeing all the 30+ players making comebacks and performing pretty consistently, the new wave of players aren't making in-roads but those past their primes.

Just wondering, if he gets there, would you guys rather see Nadal play Ferrer in the semis or Gasquet?

Well Nadal vs. Gasquet would likely be a rout based on history. So...depends on if you want to see a better match, or Nadal more comfortably go through.

Gasquet because he will be easier than Ferrer and there will be less running so Rafa will be fresher for the final. Ferrer has also pushed Rafa for a few sets and made Rafa work a bit in their recent matches before Rafa closed the matches out in dominating style.

We've seen Rafa beat up on Ferrer enough times this year and Ferrer also grinds a bit too much and can be boring to watch, so Rafa v Gasquet will be a better shot making spectacle.

So you have nicknames for everyone except roidalito?

All this talk about what matches should be televised or not, this one most certainly shouldn't be.

In fact, this match shouldn't take place.

Yes hopefully ******** withdraws before the match with a big case of inflamed hemorrhoids caused by excessive picking or something like that.

 And whose fault is it? A certain supposed top player clowning around and letting everybody down :???:

Well, Nadal did his fair share of clowning around earlier in his career, and he was ranked higher than Federer is now.

What goes around, comes around I guess.

Ticket for this match should be discounted 50 %. for boredom and running to get hotdogs due to boredom.

Oh by the way, processed meat like Hotdog has been found to increase your chance of dying by 30 %

.
No he didn't. Nadal made his 1st USO semi at 22. At 22, Fed had never passed R16 at USO. Fed made his 1st USO final at 23, Nadal at 24, not a huge difference given the difference in surface preference between the 2. (Fed made his 1st RG final at almost 25). Since the age of 24 when Rafa made his 1st USO final, he hasn't lost at USO before final.

So you think age is the key here? In that case you might as well accept that Federer is 32 and hasn't made a final here since 2009 and not won the title since 2008. In other words, it might seem to you that 'Federer is clowning around' but by that standard thats what he must have been doing all year long in 2013. It is scarcely a surprise anymore who he loses to.

I mean, too bad Nadal didn't get to thwomp old Federer at the US Open, but then Federer never got to chance Nadal here either when it was favorable for him.

Sampras says
"Why are you doing this? Doing this changes his "12" to "13" and not my "14" to "15"!! "

Respectful as ever.

Your ******** hero would not even play at 32, I can assure you of that.
Quitter that he is, he will show his back to ATP the day his bad year starts.
He has already done that with his earlier AWL sabbaticals in 2009 and 2012.

You're wasting your time.

Rd 1 - Harrison
Rd 2 - Alberto Silverton (?)
Rd 3 - Dodig
Rd 4 - Kohlschreiber
Qtr - Robredo
SF - Ferrer/Gasquet
F - Whoever's the least tired from Murray and Djokovic?

This really is the strong era that keeps on giving!

Just when you thought Nadal's USO 2010 draw could not be topped

People like you were pretty convinced that he would never win a slam outside red dirt, until 2008. Then the same was said for HC. Students of Nostradamus would bet their lives after his 2009 gap that he would not win another slam. Then armed with their super successful predictions, they were doubly sure of the same prediction when he disappeared in 2012. Thanks for saying that he won't play at 32.

Nadal's opponents to the final don't matter because any of them can be nitpicked unless it's Novak or Andy.

Look how easy this reasoning is by applying it to the top 20:

4)Ferrer - spanish pigeon. Has no weapons. Won't beat Nadal.

5)Berdych - choker against Nadal and a fanboy. Can't beat Nadal.

6)Delpo - injury prone and with poor fitness. Can't beat Nadal.

7)Federer - ...........

8 )Tsonga - very inconsistent, also injury prone.

9)Gasquet - french choker, known to be close to Nadal. Can't beat him.

10)Wawrinka - quality player but also with flashes of inconsistency. Maybe he can push Nadal.

11)Raonic - great serve, can maybe push Rafa, can't beat him. Vulnerable BH bla bla bla.

12)Nishikori - no way.

13)Haas - has quality but way too many miles.

14)Janowicz - lots of power but prone to mental meltdowns.

15)Almagro - spanish lapdog.

16)Simon - a grinder who can tire Nadal out but that's about it.

17)Isner - a small chance only if his serve is perfect for 3 out of 5.

18 ) Fognini - LAWL.

19)Cilic - doubt it.

20)Kevin Anderson - who?

Unless someone can make up a hater's wet dream of a draw like Darcis-Rosol-Davydenko-Soderling-Murray-Djokovic then I doubt Rafa will ever have a "tough" draw.
