US open QF: NADAL vs. ROBREDO

Finally Robredo moves forward and attacks the net in the 1st game of the third. He was too passive during the previous sets.

I try to be the best member I can be here, but I also don't candy coat the ridiculousness of what some people post here. Nothing to do with a superiority complex. If you can't handle that, too bad.

Nice. Nole is yet to meet a in form player. Youzhny would be his first decent challenge. But yes he's been playing extremely well.

As much as the announcers act like they are excited by the dominance of all of the so-called GOATS, I promise you that the TV boys are pretty glum right now. Guess what? The TV boys write a lot of the checks. No wonder tennis ratings have gone in the dump over the past decade.

None of it really means anything anyway. There are only three guys right now who serve as a litmus test for each other. The rest is just noise (bagels and breadsticks).

Youzhny willdo better than Granollers or Robredo. But who cares? the only real match in either half of the draw is Djokovic vs Murray.The rest is a foregone conclusion
 
I think for the Gasquet match vs. Nadal, presumed, I know, should have a poll question of how breaks of serve by each player.

You know what? Nole thrashed Goffin 6-2, 6-0! Next match he got blasted off the Cincy tournament by Isner.

I wonder if tennis fans will continue to pay big bucks to watch these matches in the future if the quality continues to decline like this. I know I sure wouldnt.

It's annoying when folks come in to spam Nadal match threads with their gifs. It wastes bandwidth.
 
Don't like what I'm seeing from Nadal. Looks a little bit lax at the moment. I guess he figures he's got this, but the match has been boring so I would hope he just tries to clean up as quickly as possible.
 
Rafa is bored of rallying, he wants to hit some flashy shots and head home.

Robredo had belief against Fed. Most do these days. He has none today. And after his huge win there is bound to be a letdown.

This isn't ridiculous, it's obvious.

I think most fans generally subscribe to the theory that this is the greatest era in men's tennis and so they put up with the routine slaughters in the early rounds by the likes of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic (nowadays, just Nadal and Djokovic. At least Murray seems to be relatively challenged in the earlier rounds of the Slams). At least I look at it that way. Instead of lamenting the sub-par quality of the rest of the men's field, I respect and give credit to the top of the men's field for dominating the game like they do and I figure when they retire the tour will shift back to a more level playing field.

I am not talking about the early rounds because I don't expect them to be brilliant. But I do expect the quality to be better in the quarterfinals and beyond. Anyway, there's not much you can do about it because it's just what it is. I do understand what you are saying.
 
As well as Gasquet played today, I can't really see him doing any better than Robredo unless he somehow finds a way to dictate with the backhand. It's not like Robredo wasn't playing great tennis coming into this match.
 
Where's that joker that was telling us Nadal moves to take a mid-court ball then pokes it over and scoots back to the baseline?! ROFL :)

Oh okay, thought you were talking about the early rounds. I would maybe agree with you then. Actually, I think that the rest of the top 8 or 10 actually are good enough to challenge the big boys, but there is just no belief in any of them. The kind of dominance the likes of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray have asserted has given them a huge mental edge. It's like they've already won before they even hit the court.

Anyway.

At least we get almost guaranteed quality in the finals, not bagels (save for FO 08)

Gasquet will do a bit better. He usually gives Nadal a decent match. He wont win a set though. The best he will do is a 7-5 or 7-6 set, or perhaps even two.
 
Gasquet in the semis?

Whoever comes out of that Nole/Murray match better bring their running shoes and inhaler cause Nadal will be able to play all night long with as much gas as he will have in the tank
