I'm going with Isner in 4. I think Isner upsets Federer and then gets pounded on by Berdych in the quarterfinals.

Isner will push this to 4 or 5. Unlike normal, he is coming in fresh this time into USO and he has had 3 straight forward matches. He did not play Winston Salem. He will have a lot in the tank.

Fed has to get the first set and deflate Isner.

I took conservative route & went Fed in 4. I just see no way John can hang. In fact, up-to-date, this is the match-up I'm most confident in (meaning most likely match I would bet on).

I will be surprised if this is not the featured night match but, if the USO organizers want to stack the deck for JI, they should schedule it in the same spot as today's match. Those shadows/bright sun contrasts would be wicked when combined with that monster serve.

Federer is on an amazing run of form. Can't count out isner taking a set in a tiebreak though. 6-4,6-7,7-6,7-5

You sound very confident about this outcome. Did you place a bet?

Nah. I never bet on tennis. Although, I don't really know how to sound confident or non-confident in a prediction. I wasn't really trying to sound in any particular way.

When I saw the initial draw come out, I predicted Federer being upset by Isner. It was based on a couple of factors. First, I didn't see Federer having any real challenge before facing Isner. Nobody Federer has faced has had a big serve and nobody he's faced has really pushed him at all. Isner is playing very well and he took a rest before coming into the USO. He's also conserved a great deal of energy - he's straight-setted everyone. I also figured that would happen given his draw. Isner is a nightmare to play when he's rested, healthy, and has gas in the tank.

I'm a person who thinks that the outcomes are largely draw-based. If you get a draw which allows you incrementally raise your level until the very end... it is a great thing. If you get a pretty bad draw and then have to raise your level very high -- that can be a great challenge.

Of course, nothing is a lock. I'm only stating a prediction. If Federer would have had just one tough challenge that required him to raise his level... I'd probably predict the other way. But I just think Federer got a really bad draw this year.

Would love to see the SABR against Isner, considering he has a ridiculous kick 2nd serve it'll be interesting to see Fed take it on the rise.

Logically you think Fed has to win this one. I saw Isner play a couple matches in DC and I just don't think he can get by Fed. Couldn't get by Nishikori, even...

A night match would help Isner because a faster court suits Federer more then Isner anyway and the heat is a big issue if it goes 5 sets for Isner.

I think Isner can win if he is super aggressive but he won't be and Federer wins in 3 or 4.

This is the biggest test for Federer until SF. Isner on this surface can push anyone to the limit if his serving is on. Still going with Federer, but may even take him full 5 sets. He wants to finish it in 3 of course, to have enough in the tank for the rest of the tournament.

If Isner Can start up and keep running his Ace machine he has a good chance to win.

Cheers

Fed is just going to slice to Isner's backhand, Isner is good but Federer can return well enough that he can play his own game.

Federer employed the tactic against Anderson in Cincinnati, so I don't see why he wouldn't against Isner.

Sir John Isner has been a revelation in this tournament with the brand of aggressive tennis that he has been playing, Federer always presents a challenge, but the way Sir John has been playing, this match is certainly on his racket.

Yes, just like their other 5 meetings. What I can't believe is that, that giant oaf hasn't played a single TB so far!? Say whaaaaaa!?

Big servers with little other weapons usually don't bother Federer too much in a best of 5 match. I predict Federer in 3 sets.
