Wow, I didn't realize Annacone was ever ranked that high.

Jonny, Roddick could play Fed in the semis. We will see which side he is on tomorrow.

Back then all the Majors ranked player seeds the way they wanted to, not by entry points (similar to Wimbledon now).

hm, isn't it a draw for this?

I think, if I remember correctly, that 1 and 2 are on opposite sides of the draw, but 3 or 4 can land on either side. So 3 or 4 could be in the top half, and then the other one will be in the bottom half.

that's what I remember too.
otherwise things could be "arranged" by definining the seeds.

Let's hope Nadal or Safin can make it to the finals against Fed. If not one of those two, maybe either Andre or Roddick with a rockin' home court crowd behind him....just about anything less will most likely be a snoozer. (assuming Fed makes it to the finals)

Isnt it 1 v 4, 2 v 3? It was at last years US Open... or am I thinking of AO...

If you look at previous Grand Slam tournament draws, you'll see it's roughly 50/50.

As someone posted earlier.
Its seed #1 in top half and seed #2 in bottom half.
Then seed #3 is RANDOMLY placed in either the top half OR the bottom half of the draw.
Then seed #4 is placed in half which seed #3 is not.

So roddick can only meet hewitt in the final and nadal can only meet federer in the final.

right now, i think i'd rather see the 1985 USO instead!
Right before i began my long odyssey into tennis...but 20 years on i think i'd rather see that line-up than the current one...and I wonder if anyone knows where to find the video/DVD of the Lendl/McEnroe final '85?

Roddick would probably be placed in the bottom half so the americans can see him in the finals. Although i want Hewitt to be in the final

Lendl not yet represent USA in 85, he turn citizen in 92, at the TMS Toronto

Legend
It may be interesting, who'll have to play Berdych in the 3rd round - Federer or Nadal. Besides I think this 32 seeding system reduces the fun of the first week. It's easier for the favourites now not to play a dangerous floater like Miyrny, Berdych or Gonzales in the first two rounds.

Lendl was on the team that won Czechoslovakia's only Davis Cup title in 1980. He stopped playing Davis Cup after he moved his residence to the United States in February 1985. His act was considered a "defection" in the normal sense; and yes, Ivan became an American citizen in 1992. He never played Davis Cup for the USA, one can only play for one country. By the way, Navratilova defected from Czechoslovakia in 1975; Korda, Mecir, Manlikova and Sukova never defected.
