4 SF slots at loaded Citi Open. 2 SF slots at Rogers Cup. What lies ahead for Cincy, Winston-Salem, and US Open?
Tsitsipas picked off by resurgent Goffin at Cincy.
Shapovalov into 3rd round Cincy with deNadalized section
Zverev in a pretty weak quarter, but Cilic playing quite well
Khachanov vying to beat Querrey and then replace Cilic in QF
Coric in with weakish Delpo, but Chung (not playing well) and Kyrgios (wrapped knee) also trying to get going (Goffin and Anderson in the other half of the Delpo quarter)
Nishikori knocked Rublev out of Fed's quarter
Given the above it seems Zverev, Shapo, Coric, and Khachanov the most likely candidates to go deep at Cincy. Only Zverev has a relatively cushy draw with good head to heads. Shapo 1-0 versus Raonic (Madrid). Khachanov has been very effective against Isner so does he have the game to get by Querrey and Cilic?
Coric has never played Delpo and just recently lost to Cilic at Rogers Cup, but Delpo pulled out of Rogers Cup after poor final in Los Cabos (Fognini loss). Goffin 4-0 vs Coric, but their most recent matches from 2016 were close and Coric greatly improved.
Will NextGen finally be beat back at Cincy? US Open will have De Minaur back in the mix. Winston-Salem has Edmund as wildcard along with Chung, De Minaur, Donaldson, Medvedev, and Jarry who has been flying under the radar (Goffin top seed, but probably withdraws if deep run at Cincy). Looks like it would be shocking if NextGen somehow got two more SF slots at Cincy and let's say 4 of 8 QF slots at US Open. Will they continue to score some upsets over the top players (Big 5, Cilic, Anderson, and their own Zverev)?
