Wow. Nadal hit 6 backhands in the rally. All midcourt and ovespinning. Couldn't penetrate the court at all. In Montreal he was flattening the ball out and going for winners.

Why does Gascoke does full shoulder rotation on every damn forehand ?
Has he not been taught to hit a forehand!

He's a big fan of Petey Pablo:

This is the problem with the one hander really. You got maybe the two best guys in the world with one hand, but they can't keep it up. Yes there are occasional spectacular shots but...it's a weaker set of muscles. It's really hard to keep it up over the long term.

Given how quick this match is, he can practice his secret weapons in private after the match!

Let's be honest here. This is a moral victory for Gasquet. Who among us here expected him to win ten games?

Gasquet perhaps had the form to do something here but mentally he really isn't up to the task.

Right, because everyone is close to/on tier 1 of the GOAT list.

Please...everybody has a different reason:

1) Djokovic - cementing his place as the best hard courter, gaining confidence to end the year at no 1 (he would be the POTY regardless of the rankings)
2) Federer - proving he's still capable of winning Slams
3) Murray - showing he's a top contender for every Slam. Going up a whole tier up (there are a lot of guys who won 2 Slams but not many won 3 or more)
4) Del Potro - proving his US Open in 2009 wasn't a fluke
5) Berdych, Tsonga - showing that more than not only 4 guys are capable of winning titles
6) Dimitrov - winning a Slam for the younger generation which is considered weak

The list goes on.

So once again stop confusing "NEED" with "WANT".

I will second this and add that
"Tennis won today".
****** may lose the final now. I, as his fan, won't be complaining.

Par fir PAris aur Shanghai kaun dekhega? ;-)

Abhi 1 mahina hai na..Kafi hai...Chalo sone jata hun...bache kudne wale hai abhii jitne hi wala hai...Waise aap kya kr rhe ho?

Nadal and Novak will be battling for YE#1 on Monday

With ND's win today, Nadal can't pass Novak - even if he wins the USO

Not to derail this thread but just thinking out loud. I don't see how a s&v couldn't beat Rafa's on hc. He stands so far back, it seems like you could create so many angles and opportunities. Guess we'll never know.

Not trying to take away anything from nadal, I love watching him play.

Djokovic is defending a Shanghai Masters win and a YEC though.

Nadal has nothing to defend for the indoor season.

Looks like Gasquet is down and out still you got to be smiling if you are a Djokovic fan having watched Nadal's performance today.
