Not to derail this thread but just thinking out loud. I don't see how a s&v couldn't beat Rafa's on hc. He stands so far back, it seems like you could create so many angles and opportunities. Guess we'll never know.

Not trying to take away anything from nadal, I love watching him play.

Rafa's not standing that far back today, and even if he was, do you really think he would lose to a S&V player? Nadal defends better than almost any player on tour save for Djokovic. On top of that, he's the king of hitting passing shots.

This was a pretty damn weak SF. More suited for a R32 match. Gasquets game never strikes me as particularly strong. Weak FH, weak serve, average movement and volleys... Just nothing special. Not very imposing physically either.

I thought Gasquet would get 1 set. This has pretty much been a one sided affair.

A good thing it appears Nadal is ending this thing rather earlier has I expect Mondays finale to be at least 5 hours. :)

I don't understand how people can say that Nadal plays attractive tennis. Today has been a moonball fest. Do you guys seriously enjoy watching this over first strike tennis players like Sampras, Safin and Federer?

Richard has had some success s&v today and its not like he's a great s&v player. I'd just like to see it, not saying Rafa's would lose for sure.

Looks like Gasquet is down and out still you got to be smiling if you are a Djokovic fan having watched Nadal's performance today.

Alright, lets just settle the f*** down, ******** just playing ball with Gascoke. Getting some match play in, ******** winning this, and I keep postin the rest of the year.

Nadal would just prefer the flatter and harder ball coming at him which is what he's been dealing with most of the tournament, rather than all this loopy rubbish Gasquet feeds him all the time. He wants a little more pace to counter off.

Djokovic is defending a Shanghai Masters win and a YEC though.

Nadal has nothing to defend for the indoor season.

He's also defending a win in Beijing :)

He's got 3,000 points to defend in order to end the year at #1. If Nadal wins the USO he's just about guaranteed YE #1. If not, He'll have to do well on the Asian swing, Paris and the YEC.

Gasquet is a great volleyer and has one of the best backhands on tour. But this is a serve, return and forehand game in 2013, and being subpar in all those areas coupled with mediocre movement is a recipe for lacklustre achievement when playing the best players.

One still has to give him credit in making a semi-final after not even making a quarter in years. He also took out two top ten players, both of whom he would normally lose to based on matchups.

Are you kidding? - the quality of tennis on display in the other semi was several notches higher than this.

Nole didn't look all that great. Hes been fortunate to have played two guys that had questionable fitness in both matches. (Youzhny, Wawrinka)

Nadal will be fresh as a daisy.

But, physcially speaking, he has one helluva head !
That head is from Jupiter. It belongs to some other planet - really big!

No way! It's why I've always struggled to imagine Nadal as the greatest player ever, even if his achievements will likely support it soon. When I think GREAT players, I think of Federer, Sampras, Laver: artists on the court. Nadal is a grinder. He's a very GOOD grinder, but a grinder.

Man, you never give Novak his due. Wawrinka played great but no, fitness won Novak the match, right?

it contributed no doubt but it wasn't the reason he lost.

But, that is what ****** has been dishing out all his life, no?

Wawrinka played great for a portion of the match.. The rest of the match was sloppy errors and PATHETIC first serve percentages and chokes.

Nadal wins 6-4 7-6(1) 6-2. Gasquet played pretty well but it was a straight sets win for Nadal when all is said and done.

We have yourselves a Djokovic-Nadal final, mirroring Williams-Azarenka on the women's side.

Brutal way to end it, but at least he was competitive in the second. It's been an impressive tournament for Gasquet given his history.

Consider the source.

He's been terrible today. I don't know how the mods see past his crap. My brethren got deleted because supposedly, maybe some of the posts led to suspicion that they were accusing somebody of doping, which in fact, they didn't.
