USA to drop US Open

Oh well, I hope that Ted Turner and his crappy network stuck to re runs and movies, they butchered the Nlds and Alds games with the horrible camera shots

I kind of like the commentators at ESPN2 better than Mary Carillo and Dick Enberg at NBC, CBS, and USA. Hopefully we'll hear less from them, and more from Darrin and Chris at ESPN 2.

Chris Fowler? You can't be serious.

But hopefully Darren and Johnny Mac will be the main commentators, with Agassi making a few appearances once and awhile.

What is the Nlds and Alds? Is that baseball? (Sorry, I don't watch it anymore :) ).

I don't think TNT is going to get this, more than likely it will be another joint deal between ESPN and TTC, but we have one more year of 12 hours of coverage on USA.

This is horrible. I loved USA coverage off the USO and the complete dedication to the event. 10:00 every morning until later afternoon. A televised evening session every night, and replays in the early morning hours.

For the most part, I also really liked the commentators. I'm 35. Ever since may parents got cable, I've always watched the USO on USA.

I'm worried that there won't be as many televised night matches. Or that there will be more tape delay and other bullsh*t.

People not from America may not know that 'USA' is a TV channel. When I first saw that thread title I thought you meant USA - the country - will no longer host the US OPen! :)

Its unfortunate. But, it simply doesn't generate the ratings.

Who is watching TV on weekday mornings or afternoons? People watching Guiding Light, Regis, The View, People's Court. These viewers aren't tennis people.

I'm sure its purely a business decision.

Yes Fee it is baseball, in fact tbs has all of the post season and it is horrible to watch with the camera angles they use on tbs sometime on tnt. My point was that I hope that neither station gets tennis because I can't imagine them being able to keep up with the pace of tennis.

Good! USA dosnt have HD so maybe USO can get picked up by TNT, ESPN(2), Universal HD, or another network with HD.

Well, after never getting any sort of expanded cable, it looks like I'm finally going to have to give in and get the package that includes the Tennis Channel. So much coverage has been moved that there isn't really any other choice.

I hope that TT hires some top-notch commentators.

Thank you. :)

No offense, but who cares about HD. Don't get me wrong, I like HD TV. I'd rather have the complete coverage than the HD. They committed to the tournament fully. It was all day coverage of the tournament which no other network, not even ESPN, would do. This is horrible.

That’s hilarious!!! :)

Then again, I guess it wouldn’t surprise me if the USTA “outsourced” the US Open to China or India to avoid those pesky resurfacing costs.

I’m the same age as you and I’ve watched the US Open on USA channel since high school. I agree that the dedication to coverage has always been very good, and I can only hope that the next network has the same commitment.

Ummm...me.....I am self employed and I clear my schedule for all of the slams, but I'm the exception to the rule I guess....

booo to USA Network

Shoot. I too liked the all morning coverage, and will greatly lament it if it heads over to ESPN, a channel that seems to think bowling is more important than tennis. Even if it goes to TTC, whose coverage of the FO was very good IMO, I wouldn't like it because I don't get that channel anymore.:-(

Plus, USA's USO commercials were pretty funny, like all their ads are.

Realistically if China, India or Mexico could create larger profits should we not move it there? That is the corporate way.

I dunno. For me it just seemed fitting that the US OPEN would air on USA network.

Now that it's changed, that sucks.

I'd personally would like it to go to TNT. Their cameras are far superior to the one's ESPN uses.

I had no idea USA was that huge on ratings. I can't imagine what their late night Law and Order SVU/Criminal Intent ratings get them. I know WWE Raw (wrestling) is their highest rated show which gets them around 3.5-4.0 rating.

Oh well.
