USC,the team to beat... let's play match ups..

USC probable lineup..

1. Johnson
2. Nguyen
3. Sarmiento
4. Gomez
5. Hanfmann
6. Quiroz or E.Johnson or Vives or Wang

1. Hanfmann/Johnson
2. Nguyen/Sarmiento
3. Gomez/Quiroz

let's go ... any team better than this ? right now(on paper) actual results may vary...

To me, they're equally matched. UVA has had the talent the last couple of years to win it all, but have not executed when it mattered most. They still have the talent, as does USC, as does maybe a one or two other teams. But, who will execute?

In doubles, USC should win the point.

I would give UVa a slight edge at #1 doubles based on experience.
USC would have the clear edge at #2 and #3. At least until proven otherwise.
Going back to the Devvarman/Huey (then Shabaz/whomever) days, UVa has had a really strong #1, but then when it counts, they seem to struggle to get it done at #2 and #3.

Overall
Would agree with most everything already posted,

USC the clear favorite at #1 singles.

UVa favored at #2 and #3 (though of course D-win can beat anyone in crunch time).

That makes it 2-2 overall. The rest are tossups.

Plenty of questions remain:
Does Courtney return to top #25 level tennis?
Will Shane play better in crunch time this year?
How will Hanfmann and Quiroz handle the pressure?
You do know what you're getting with a healthy Uriguen, his 3rd year at #6, but is that enough to keep up with Quiroz?

USC has been playing Sarmiento at #2 and Nguyen at #3 lately, right?

switching to find a good fit.. as I said last year,USC needs a real #2 man.. no one seems to be stepping up.. I was hoping Hanfmann would have made the #2 spot ,but his game hasn't taking off,...

12th and 16th ranked players in the nation not good enough for a "real" #2? :)

Ask every team in the nation "which team do you want to beat the most" They will answer UGA every time. We are the Big Dawgs. And even though we get everyone's best shot we almost never lose.
