Used Neos, or new Axis/Gamma X-ST?

Hello,

I've been contemplating the purchase of a new stringing machine and had narrowed my decision to the usual suspects that get good feedback around here (Alpha Revo/Axis Pro & Gamma X-ST/5003).

I've come across a like-new condition, used Prince Neos that I can get for ~$550-$600.

Now i'm a bit torn. Any recommendation on what to go with?

The machine is just to string for myself and friends I play with. I'm sure i'll be happy with any of them, just wondering what you all would suggest.

Thanks for any input!

The Neos is a tank, only problem is if you string fan pattern rackets you will need floating clamps. $500 for a used neos is like new condition is a bargain.

As you stated, all of your choices seem to get very good marks around here. So you probably can't go wrong with any of them.

I have the Gamma X-ES and I enjoy the fact that it's a tabletop unit as opposed to an upright machine. It's easy for me to place it on a storage shelf (out of the way) when I'm not using it. Just something to consider. If you don't mind an upright unit in a corner of a room (or in front of your TV), then by all means, go with the AxisPro, 5003, or NEOS.

Personally, I like new "toys" but many people will tell you that there's nothing wrong with buying used, especially from a reputable seller. TW sold some used NEOS a while back, and I'd feel fine buying from them. But buying from an auction site or unknown person who could disappear somehow is risky in my book.

Best of luck.

I'll 2nd everything that Lindros13 said above and add that I've had a Gamma ST for over two years now and it's been a solid machine with no problems at all. For personal stringing it does a great job and I'm still pleased with my purchase. For what you've got planned (very similar to what I do), I think the Gamma ST is a very good choice.

NEOS. If you can get that in good condition for about $500, buy it. I have a Gamma 5003 after trading in an older 2pt glide bar clamp and I regret it. Unless you really really need to string fan patterns, glide bars are faster because they are single action clamps and you don't need to alternate clamps on the crosses. If you manage to snag a great shape NEOS, I'll trade you a mint Gamma 5003 straight up. That's how much I prefer glide bars.
