USO 2015 court speed observations thread.

Well, I haven't watched yet but according to some posters on Men's Tennis Forum, courts are looking faster than last year's. Is this true?

I think they look fast, faster than in a couple recent years. That could also be due to flatter hitting players ho I just shortly watched. Let's see how slow or fast it looks when top grinders play.

Note your observations here.

Just heard announcers say in the Djokovich match that it's playing extra slow this year, didn't pick up full conversation something about court being re-done, but they were clear on it, announcer asked "So who will that favor", and Cahill said "Well the top 4".

They are saying there is much less wind even with the roof back so that should help Fed if that was what you were getting at.

TTW metric for determining court speed:

Before January 2015-
-Federer progresses further in a tournament => court is fast, and low bouncing

-Nadal progresses further in a tournament => court is slow, and high bouncing

From January 2015 onwards-
-Federer progresses further in a tournament => court is fast, and low bouncing

-Nadal progresses further in a tournament => Miracle.

I can feel the speed of the court by looking at its surface: fast grass: green and thick
fast hard: smooth and no running trace
Fast clay: Look like slow hard

It seems the unintended but wanted side effect of the completion of the roof may be the elimination of the wind tunnel effect of the stadium on the court.

From what i have watched, Armstrong looks fast (he was a doper after all), Ashe looks medium fast.

I went to the qualifiers last week. From watching Zverev, Almagro and some women's match right at the baseline angle from the side of the courts I didnt see a lot of hard hit balls skidding off. The outside courts look like medium fast hard courts.

Arthur Ashe court during last nights Kyrgios Murray match looked very slow. Kyrgios has some very hard forehands but the ball slowed down a lot after the bounce. Murray actually has a very hard cross court forehand when he is taken out wide. That shot was even less penetrating. But I think the cooler and extreme humid condition slowed down the speed a lot.

Federer played during the day and Murray during night. Federre said the court was fast and lively. Possible indication that it is quite bouncy during day time as well.

Of course Federer said it's playing fast, and of course Murray would say it's playing slow. That's what each of their respective fans want to hear, and each of their respective opponents don't want to hear.

Federer is pretty good at mind games, a point rarely covered on these forums.

Looks like the same old slow snail paced surface we have seen the past few years with the tennis backboards (Murray and nole) retrieving everything back again. So hard to hit winners on these guys on slow surfaces or ace them

Gasquet said in post Kokk match interview that smaller courts are much faster than Ashe/Armstrong/Grandstand

I can just imagine Chico showing up to the USTA with a fake moustache and uniform, selling court roofs after the 2012 final.

That usually seems to be the case.

There seems to be obsession with court speed on here.

I saw a two handed forehand and backhand Twaiwanese girl who played net skimming zero spin flat balls. Since you asked about moonballs a couple of years again there were indeed a WTA qualifying evening match which was a moonball fest. It was mesmerizing in a way but I ended up going to bed.

You can rest assured that the biological passport has found Nadal clean. I suspect that is why he stopped winning. :)

My screen name is about me, it is my screen name after all -- I am good at moonballs.

Nadal is a grinder. A grinder needs stamina. Doping boosts stamina. Bio passport deters doping. Clean grinders continue to win. Cheating grinder stops winning.

Hope the above helps.
