Kygrios in straights.
If Novak were to lose, Kygrios is my pick to win the UsOpen.

I don't see him beating Federer or Nadal. He has a tendency to quit when things get tough, or completely lose his mind over something as ridiculous as the serve clock.

Hmm. Yeah. But Kygrios has the game to beat Fed and Nadal.
And he is perhaps the ONLY guy who IF he's ON - can beat Novak too.

To put it simply, Kygrios has a better chance to beat Novak, than Fed or Nadal do.

I know Kygrios is a headcase, but if he reaches the final, it would mean he is playing well. And against the top players he comes to play.

Imagine the bad blood between Novak and Kygrios. I mean, really that could be the best UsOpen final: Djokovic vs Kygrios.

I was within spitting distance of King last week
when he was practicing.

He was going bezerk
Smashing rackets at practice.
Cursing out fans who he thought were laughing at him (We were not)

He is VERY intense.
It was like being at the zoo and a lion is behind the glass, thank god.

Not sure if he's always like this

Battle of the Young Guns with both entering the USO with decent form. Kyrgios winning Washington and Rublev making the Quarters at Cincinnati and upsetting Tsitsipas in the 1st round.

We have the prison break psycho vs the medieval peasant farm boy ???

I do fear it's a bad match-up for Rublev, though. I watched their single previous match, and Kyrgios eked out a win despite playing a clown match. Rublev thrives on a certain level of rhythm, and Kyrgios doesn't give it to him.

That said, never know when Nick will fold or throw up a stinker if he faces some adversity. And I don't think Rublev will be too distracted by Nick's shtick either. He's usually too busy waging emotional warfare on himself to pay too much attention to what the opponent is doing.

In any case, should be a good one. I'm predicting Rublev W by fifth set disqualification 8-B

I'm going with Rublev. As soon as the hype starts once again about Kyrgios, he loses.

Whoever wins this match should make it to the QF and might be favourite to make it through to the semis - depending on whether Gurufils or Clownfils shows up.

Yeah I think the matchup is horrendous. Rublev has a much better forehand but he'll hardly get any chances to use it. His very aggro 1st return game doesn't really work against a great serve like Kyrgios, and while I think Rublev will take care of his 1st serve perfectly fine it's his 2nd serve that's the big problem.

pretty much my thoughts.

I think Rublev will get less out of his big cuts on both first and second serve return in this match-up.

If Nick starts throwing junk or draws Rublev into the forecourt, I don't think Rublev's the best at handling that either. Nick (somehow) hit the nail on the head when he explained why Murray owns him: none of that junk or shock tactics remotely fazes Murray. He has the improvisational skills to answer all of it. Rublev doesn't.

And Murray is usually too busy antagonising himself to deal with Kyrgios' antics.

Nah but really that's also the reason Dimitrov owned him the big matches they played. Especially the Cinci final. Kyrgios has very atypical matchups, but against him I think the most vital think is that a player takes care of his own serve.

Fergus Murphy umpiring this one? This has the potential to be a thriller, hope to see some great rallies!

If Kyrgios is on he should win handily but with Nick you never know. Rublev should try to upset him somehow.
