you know when you hear that a someone that made film that are part of your favorite collection has died, none of this seems as important as we make it.

Patrick Swayze passed away.

RIP man:cry:

Whoever told Federer before the match the strategy is to keep hitting to Del Po's forehand should be fired!

I think he blew the match by losing the 2nd set. He allowed Delpo to get more comfortable and gain confidence. If he goes up 2 breaks in the 2nd, no way Delpo comes back from that. Lack of killer instinct. Its like he thought, no worries, I'll just turn up the Fed and close it out anyway.

That being said, he still was up 5-4, 30-0, serving for the set. He shouldve handled it.

Way too many drop shots, drop volleys, too little killer instinct and focus. Be buddy buddy after the match. Till then keep your foot on his throat.

This is good for tennis ... Seriously ...

Agreed.

What a match, great tennis and drama. Both players definitely had their ups and downs. Though it has to be said, Federer's serve was almost always down and played a significant role in the outcome. But the most significant role was Delpo's manner , remarkable how he stood firm throughout both mentally and game-wise... Not just this match; beating Rafa & Roger back to back to win a GS. That's something.

As for Roger, yet another amazing run of his ends in the final match, again he made his last stand at the very top. I think he should take pride in that.

I guess Federer paid the price for not converting his many break points and his serve was just wonky so many double faults. Credit to Del Potro he played well and never gave up. Nice to see Federer being gracious in defeat.

How do you say "believe" in Spanish??? :D

Creer :)

I really wanted the 6th US Open for Roger, but DelPo desserved this title. I'm glad for him!

I think its because of the Australian double bagel which made him underestimate DP

very deserved del potro....he played all the big points....federer gave him too many forehands to smash into court that was strange tactic from fed camp but untimely it was federer's serve that failed him just above 40% does not cut it...

things can only get better for de potro i suspect he will be favorite for aussie open next year.

Damn, I underestimated Del Po. I forgot that he's the guy that beat Nadal whom Federer always have trouble with. Congrats again Del Po.

This is so hard to call.

Usually big hitters who have big tournaments end up in the final facing Fed and then just..... bow down

I really, really hope Del Potro is different because his variety of tennis is much more welcome in the finals at Arthur Ashe and in the Top 5 than the stale boring brand of tennis that is Murray.

Here's to Juan Martin giving Roger hell

My heart says JMDP in 5

My brain says RF in 4

Just so I don't hear anything about being a bandwagon hopper :)

Brain was wrong, heart knows best - JMDP in 5 it was.

I wouldnt say that. Delpo pretty much outplayed him for the 1st 4 sets at the French. Fed was fortunate to extend the match to 5 sets where it looked like Delpo got a little tired and his serving % dropped enough for Fed to get into his his service games and eventually break him.

Overall, Im sure Fed would take the win at the FO back in May, over this one here.

Here is my email to CBS and ESPN below :

Dear Sirs -

I am writing to you in order to note what happened at the Award Ceremony of the 2009 US. Open final.

I am deeply saddened by the way that Juan Martin Del Potro was shunned from the microphone by Dick Enberg when he only requested to say a few words in Spanish, having to ask twice for that.

I also noted that Caroline Wozniacki lost the Championship and was allowed plenty of time to express herself in English, Polish and Danish.

I would really appreciate it since this means a lot to me as I am sure it meant to a lot of people.

Tennis is, by nature, an international sport, and after putting a great show for all of us to see this shocked me deeply.

Thanks in advance

Do you have an email addy ?

I'll send one as well !

Re-reading this thread while watching the recorded match should be fun. :)

I was gonna vote on the poll for Fed in 3 in the middle of the second set, but I wisely withheld my judgment. Maybe it did some good

Congratulations to Delpo for this great win! He won fair and square against Fed. No excuse to Federer as he was in shape and fully fit for the task.
I failed miserable at predicting the outcome - don't throw stones at me. I underestimated Delpo...

How many points will JMDP win?

Roddick is the only one who couldn't take out Federer in a grand slam final this year. That figures he can never find a way to defeat Federer in a grand slam. Nadal downed Federer in 5 in Australia and Del Potro dumped Fed in 5 at the Open.

Congrats.. I hope he keeps it up though and maybe eventually get to Number 1.. I would hate for this to be the high point of his career and then disappear like so many other talented players who only grabbed one slam

Um...how about Soderling?

Federer looked to me like someone who wouldn`t have made a big difference if he won or lost.He was going home happy anyways.

Looks like the mono is back. Or is it stereo now?
It was nothing physical. It was all mental. He was just not himself today for whatever reason. Perhaps his babies kept him up all night? Who knows but it seemed to me like his brain went on strike today. And what was with all the shanks and missed serves?

Well done to Del Potro. He was amazing just like spiderman limbs everywhere! Also well done to Federer who played a terrific first set and it was classic tennis at its best. Nadal was exhausted last year after winning all that lot so I think Federer should have been as well.
