USTA changes strangle so cal tennis

So basically what I got out of this was "wah I don't get a chance to play nationals, take spots from other sections so I can get a chance." You're complaining about your section getting screwed, and your solution is to screw other sections? Cool, dude. Good one.

Like we all know, the USTA doesn't care about you, me, or thousands of other juniors. They play their favorites, and the rest of us are left to do our own thing. I play for the love of the game. I understand you've put in a lot of work and effort and want some results, but look at the other point of view. Enjoy the experiences you've had instead of spending your time saying "I wish I had that." Focus on what you can control, and forget the rest. So send your letter if you want, and practice as hard as you can. Get the most out of what you have.

why should some kid who sucks in another section get to play nationals over someone who is better then them? Nationals is supposed to be the best kids competing, unless you think the USTA should slash the draws because they are complaining about lack of talent in the national tournaments. But heres a quick solution, find out what sections are the most difficult reward players in those sections more points this way USTA doesnt have to slash draws.

treeallday just keep working on your game and everything will take care of itself. Good luck and thank you for sharing your story.

there are some rules that can be unfair but that's the way it is roll with the punches.

at the US olympic trials, only the top 2 finishers qualify for the olympics. you see heartbreaking stories in swimming, track and field where everyone knows the top 4 are the 4 best in the world and will sweep all the medals. so why don't we let the best go? remember the gymnastics all around where our reigning world champion finished 3rd and didn't qualify? the purpose is so no one country can dominate.

there is a case to be made to not allow one section to dominate nationals. it allows kids from other sections to have a chance to compete against better players. you already said you get that high-level of competition locally, and the colleges realize that, so that's great news for you.

my complaint is that the USTA is complaining about lack of talent in junior national tournaments but in reality, there a ton of players in So Cal and other big sections that meet the criteria to play in big national tournaments.

I don't remember USTA complaining about that. I think their concern was with kids who were playing national tournaments who really did not belong there, but were qualified due to sheer number of tournaments that they played.

Tree, I think you are a fairly well-adjusted kid and that is a major kudos to your parents and you.

However, accepting that life is just not fair sometimes will go a long way in keeping you happy and sane for rest of your life. The concerns you have raised are just not that important in the big picture.

If you read the hannity dr. russel argument, dr. russel mentioned and used examples of kids losing 0,0 first round in nationals. But you are right the whole system is sloppy so you cant really only complain about one thing.

Thanks to everyone who replied and discussed this with me. I appreciate the kind words and advice. It made me realize that a few national tournaments wont make a difference to whether I go to the school I want to go to or not, I just have to continue to work hard. I will continue to train hard and try to rise to the top of So Cal. Hopefully I will run into you guys some other time on the forum.

Don't read too much into that. There is this thing called Seeding which makes a lot of first round matches uncompetitive BY DESIGN, so I have to laugh about the whole first round matches are uncompetitive schtick.

You really are in a very unique position. You have the facility, the training ground, and so many levels of tournaments that you can now play at your age. For you the glass is truly half full.

Good luck and all the best.
