Shelton would win nothing at Ohio State. He was not good at Florida, only got lucky his son turned into a bigger talent than he ever imagined.

Is there much luck involved when your kids grow up training with you and attend regular high school rather than shipping them off to academies and psuedo-school online, and they both become well-spoken college athletes, one of them a pro athlete?

And are you 100% sure they would do a better job than Tucker at OSU just cause they’ve won titles in the past? Shelton, Pedroso and Boland have all had down years in their tenures. It’s just as possible Ohio State would slip a bit under their guidance as it is they would roll in and start churning out national titles.

No I am not 100& sure but it is still better than going on 24 years without an NCAA title in the month of May with sweat paint at the helm.

When I was a grad student at OSU, they ran John Cooper out of town for losing to TTUN. The current AD doesn't care much for tennis so I guess Tucker is safe. Hopefully the new incoming AD at OSU has better expectation than the current status quo.

Let me remind you that John Cooper won the Rose Bowl in 1996 and they still ran him out of town a few years later. He took OSU to ten consecutive bowl games and had a 111-43 record in his time at OSU and that is NOT good enough.
The expectation at OSU is to win championship. To be great, not just good.

OSU are overwhelming favorites this year with a 15 point difference from TCU in the collegetennisranks. Likely in May this silly debate will be put to rest. Better yet, their entire starting 6 is I believe US born except for Boulais who is Canadian, so that's stellar recruiting as well. It is insane that this is even a conversation.
Now Bob is the we only win natty's guy, so boring. TT's long, ongoing and documented successful career at the helm and ongoing AD support clearly contradicts your isolated opinion.

Why aren’t Mid-west teams bidding to host NCAAs? Do they not have enough outdoor courts? It seems all the NCAAs from 2017 thru 2025 are all hosted where heat and humidity can play a big role. OSU may play a couple big matches down South or in Texas early each March but doesn’t get the outdoor and Humidity practice teams in the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 do. This year OSU and 1-2 of the Ivys could be in the last 8 in Oklahoma. They can travel a few days ahead maybe to adjust-could depend on exams. 5-6 of the top 8 will already be acclimated. In tough long 3 setters if May is hot, the lack of late spring play in humid conditions could make the difference between a 4-3 and a 3-4 final. I hope OSU can pull it off but is there an option someday if NCAAs held N of Mason Dixon. I was a spectator watching 2017 NCAAs in Athens and was sweating just watching the midday matches…

Ohio State has to get better in doubles. They lost badly yesterday at 2 and 3. They won't be able to win the NCAA title if they lose the doubles point in all 3 matches in Stillwater.
If Montes is back 100% heaalthy,, Virginia is the overwhelming favorite to win it all.
Virginia is stronger than last year as Dietrich is much stronger than Goetz.
Ohio State is not as strong as last year as Trotter was undefeated at #4.
If Montes is healthy, Virginia is favored to win doubles against Ohio State ....and Virginia is heavy favorite to sweep the top 3 singles (like they did last year).

Thanks. I forgot about that. That makes sense. Illinois must have a lot of outdoor courts-they used to host the 18s National boys team event the week before Kzoo. All 17 regions played each other to determine Nat’l champ. Son played it the year Southern lost in finals to SoCal. Anyway do most of the Big 10 just have 6 courts outdoors or do any others have 12?

You should tell that to the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens was the favorite to win the 2024 super bowl but did not. Sweat pant has failed to deliver every year. Even in 2018 & 2019 with JJ Wolf on the team, Tucker failed to deliver.

So Bob, not sure where you are getting some clearly biased info or hearing this “disinterest” assumption around OSU AD gene Smith.
With Smith’s blessing, OSU named the brand new tennis complex after Tucker!
More to point the present OSU AD has been both a visible and highly engaged visitor at OSU matches.
When Bucks were at Lake Nona for the championships last May, so was Gene. I was impressed with his support.
His interactions with the coaches, team and the large contingent of Buckeye fans seemed like more than just doing his job.
