USTA: last day for matches to count towards 2024 ratings?

I’m currently a 3.5S rated player going to nationals. Any estimates on how “worried” should I be about getting bumped to 4.0?

Good record in 3.5 but pretty abysmal in everything else, but I’m not sure what all of those get counted towards rating.

Congratulations on going to Nationals!

Many, but not all, players that go to Nationals get bumped up. The percentage that are bumped up is higher at lower levels and both your individual success and success of the team factors in to who is bumped up. So there is no simple answer without looking at specifics.

What matches count towards your rating varies by section. Some count only advancing leagues, others count the secondary leagues run locally that don't advance or only go so far as Sectionals, and then there is Tri-Level that is counted in most but not all (yet). But Nationals matches definitely count and will be the largest influence on your rating as they will be the last ones of the year so most recent and also are given extra weight in the USTA's year-end calculations.

If you are interested in getting an estimate of where your rating is, I calculate estimated dynamic ratings (have been for 13 years now) and do reports for players giving a bunch of detail. DM me here for more details.

Could someone explain? The top two ranked NTRP adults get sent to nationals in my region I believe. So if I’m in the top two by the cutoff date, would I think qualify for nationals?

If you are referring to NTRP Tournament Nationals, the selection criteria varies by section. Your section should have it documented what they use or who to contact.

But you are asking about something entirely different than the cut-off date for matches to count for year-end NTRP ratings, although if you are bumped up that may affect your eligibility for NTRP Nationals.

How come you're worried about getting bumped up? I'd take it as a compliment and a new challenge. And congrats on getting to Nationals, not an easy task.

Oh sorry I read the thread completely wrong. Makes sense.

Usually the Sunday of the last Nationals. That would put it a 11/12 this year.
Does it usually cutoff when ALL of the Nationals have ended (including Mixed) or when the last regular adult leagues Nationals have ended? That would be a two week difference this year Oct 29 or Nov 12

It has varied, last year it was the last Mixed.

Excited for the challenge, not excited for the beat downs. I know a lot of 4.0s in my area and I’m lucky if I can grab a game or two off them during a set. 3.5 matches tend to be competitive but with me winning. I think about 2/3s of my matches this year we’re third set breakers. Almost all of my sets were one break. I will enjoy the challenge but winning is also fun haha

I saw a question posted on another site regarding early start leagues that people didn't know the answer to so I figured I'd post here:

Let's say a 2024 ESL begins in September 2023 -- do those matches, up until the cutoff date, count towards 2023 year-end ratings? Or do they only count towards 2024 since it's named a 2024 league?

They count for 2023.

Tennisrecord has not updated any matches from 2024 ESL. Usually they had updated things in the past but this year it's just nothing!

Any idea when the cutoff is? I remembered it was early November last year or something but it's subject to change right?
I think the ratings usually come out around the week of 11/1, after the 55+ national championships are over. So I think the ratings are calculated up until near the end of October. I don’t know for sure but I think it’s usually up to the last week of October.

All good information thanks all. On a separate note, I miss checking TR weekly so I have been checking UTR daily, and that system jumps around so much. Can anyone explain why one day I'm a 6.5, the next a 6.25, the next a 5.84, and the next a 6.15. I'm not playing daily but boy does it jump around to almost be completely meaningless.

because it's recalculating based on how your opponents are doing/playing...
usually it jumps around within a narrow range... so i just take the avg of the range to get the gist of where i'm at...
in your case 6.185...
and expect anything within .5 to be a 50/50 chance of winning.

caveat, if you don't have extensive history, the range can just much bigger, especially if you have a out of band performance... for example, in the early days of utr, i once played a utr13, and somehow got 3 games... so it calc'd i was a utr11+.
i should have stopped playing at that point, and never picked up a racquet again, as i'll never get to that level :p
but as i played more matches, the algo smoothed out my utr, to what it is now (which appears to be accurate)... utr7+

Thanks, sounds good. But it almost seems that if one of the players I played, plays after I played them, the UTR site is going back into this history and changing that players rating when he played me. That doesn't seem right. Also, UTR doesn't show an opponent's UTR rating for a snapshot in time, when things change, they change that UTR for all the past matches, which is weird to me.

If you look at the stats page, at the bottom it should display a UTR history for you. It also shows this for your opponents. You must be a subscriber to access that info. I just signed up for $10 per month is a lot but wanted to try for a year.

I'm not a fan of this as well. When reviewing your past matches on the UTR website, it would make more sense to show your UTR rating as of the match date, instead of showing your current UTR rating when viewing old match history.
