damn. my weekly travel was 100% shut down. i'm eating and drinking everything in sight...and only playing tennis about 1-2x per week versus 2-4 times/wk when i was traveling. BUT -- I played way more golf this year -- about 1x/wk on average, and like many others, got so many house projects done, trying to decide whether to enjoy it, or sell now!
Part of the impetus for me was that I joined a virtual fitness challenge against some of my co-workers in April that tracked weight, steps, calories, etc. I'm pretty competitive, so I wanted to crush everyone with my stats, which I did... and then I just kept going after the contest was over. I pretty much knew that organized tennis was going to be canceled for the year, so I figured that this would be a great time to work on other fitness things aside from tennis like losing weight, getting stronger, running farther/faster, etc. (Although, when our club was open, I was getting to hit on the ball machine every day for about 90 minutes in the early morning, so I was practicing a lot and my strokes were still tuned. However, the club was temporarily closed down again due to COVID, so it might be a couple months until that is an option again.)
Like you, many of my 4.5+ teammates decided to start playing golf instead this year. The courses here have never closed, so it was always an option. One of my friends told me he's played over 70 rounds since the pandemic began! My wife and I even got out on a couple courses about a half dozen times. (Golf was my wife's sport and we used to play a ton back before we had kids.)
Overall, working from home has afforded me more time for fitness and hanging out with family than I've had in many years. We're probably just as busy and productive as before - I have way more meetings on Zoom and projects than I did in the office. However, cutting out the commute, prep time, water cooler talk, and stuff like that has really opened up more personal time. I'm super thankful that I'm in a career that has had this option... I know that not everyone is as fortunate.
