DUDE who is this Zach Bruchmiller guy cant find stuff on him anywhere?
A couple quick ways- TENNIS RECRUITING.com
THEN USTA NATIONAL RANKINGS
THEN- USTA TEXAS section.
Maybe even GOOGLE his name.
Played a couple times/doubles with Jay Rogers at some national tournaments of one sort or another-And got the scent of easy pickings just over the hill. Maybe he has family here or something as well, because the points can't be that hard to come by in his own section.
Last three times he signed up for SW tournaments here he dropped before seeds/draws... he drops this time it will cost him the $60.00+ Some players MAY want to start a collection.
I think sometimes, mentally, it's better not to know this stuff than dig and obsess for larger national tournaments ie Wilson, Copper, Irvine etc.
- BUT -
Here's his raw numbers from TENNISRECRUITING-
He will be opening a new branch to his bakery.
AND MY PERSONAL FAVORITE
He will be handing out candy canes and as* whippings.... And guess what? He's out of candy canes.
Gulf States: 27
Sched. Strength: 173[/U]
Draw updated: JH Nicholas withdrew and another SoCal kid is in his place. The replacement doesn't appear to be as strong. Changes things immensely, as Chalmers looks to have a fairly easy in to the quarterfinals setting up a match between him and likely either Spizman or Lawson.
Interestingly, Nicholas is still in the doubles draw, although most likely an oversight.
About the height thing: I don't think it makes a difference unless you are Garret Dunn or Eric Chalmers. Mitch is probably about 6'3". Steady baseline player. Let's say he were 5'11", I think he'd be just as good... maybe a slightly weaker serve. The other "tall guy" you have to mention is Spizman. When he gets on and gets going he's easy top ten. He isn't always "on," though.
Daycrawler: how close are you and Josh Brown. You seem to know a lot about him.
Pretty close. I used to live by him and we used to train together but I moved out of Arizona recently so yeah. We text a lot and facebook.
predictions for the quarters in 16s:
mayer vs heerboth
robert simon vs dominic patrick
jacob vs hunter
and for 18s:
montoya vs bermudez
You're missing a quarter: looks like Tehrani v Jaruvang. With Lawson and Montoya in the 18s, I'm feelin' it for Cam to make it to the finals.
cam and jaruvang? i didnt post that cuz that will be a joke but wat r ur predictions for the other 3 quarters
Heerbooth headed to Nogales tomorrow as Catalina Foothills varsity member; Lets hope he and his team make it back, as it includes B18 Danny Hyman as well.
heerboth and hyman mite default?
Yeah, they may decide to become Mexican drug lords...
If another SOCAL player took the place of JH Nicholas, that certainly raises a lot of issues with the SWUSTA...
A complete, complex can of worms-
This isn't a sweet 16 where you need the exact amount of players.
Since they don't accept late registrations how did this work?
I'll believe when it happens- must be a typo or read wrong by poster- Up until now, they would not substitute in a player.
If they are going to accept late registrations AS SUBSTITUTES, then they should publish this entry rule AND display a list of standbyes- and quit charging the entry fee as a "non refundable late fee once draws are made"
I am truly hoping this didn't happen,as it would appear that they are making rules up as they go along.
For instance, during this whole "Josh Brown" discussion(s) I'm sure I read a post that he would have signed up but missed deadline-So is the SWUSTA is allowing player substitutions now?
This seems to have set registration rules on it's ear, if it is true.
No more JH Nicholas in the singles draw. Instead Kji Hamill...at least according to the update posted yesterday eve. Can't vouch for the accuracy - I'm not one of those who believes that just because it's on the internet it's true.
What the Tournament Director updates on the tournament website must be taken as true- Like changes to playing sites.
I just wrote the Tournament Director asking for clairification, given the fact that IF there is a "special standby" list for late registrations- No member of the SWUSTA knows about this list.
Any number of SWUSTA members (and players) would have signed up for a stand by list, given missing the deadline.
We can't assume how many would have added their names- Every player right now understands that if you miss the deadline- you miss the tournament. Are they pulling registration rules out of their hats as they go along for their own sake?
And is this dropping player drop from singles and showing up for doubles? I pointed that out to the TD so he can clean that point up, if necessary.
Sweet Sixteens... Fine, you need (obviously) 16- and the list of "stand bys" would be clear, in order, and contactable.
But just swapping out one player for another after seeding and draws? Was the new player suggested by the dropping player, and it all seemed the easiest answer?
It would be pretty simple to add a line to the entry information stating that-
Players who miss the registration deadline, and are otherwise qualified, can add their name to a stand by list for late drops-On a first come basis, call the Tournament Director.
Turns out, there is ALWAYS a stand by list at every SW tournament for those players who want to wait for a drop out after the registration deadline has passed.
The name swap occured in B18s when the replacement player asked if it was too late to register right at the same time the first original player dropped- And there was nobody on the stand by list (everyone knows about now).
still no answer...r wade heerboth and daniel hyman defaulting this weekend in the valley of the sun
My Predictions for Valley of Sun:
Everybody's a winner there are only last place winners
i dnt believe in that crap
Think, man... Manfred was making a very obvious joke. Stay in school, kids...
somebody mentioned that wade and hyman were going to some thing and might not get back on time for valley of the sun junior open stuff so will they get back in time or not
^^^It was a JOKE!!! He was saying the team went down to Nogales - lets hope they make it back (because it's, basically, Mexico (not really, but as close as you can get)). He was joking that the team could go down to Nogales and never come back.
I fear for this generation...
what tennis do they have in nogales?
They have a high school team. In 4A Division 1 Keno region.
Played Catalina Foothills last night.
Hyman and Heerboth play on Catalina Foothills varsity.
Catalina Foothills 9
Kind of obvious: Nogales High School
they any good
No they't aint any then there good down there in that mexico part.
Now to actually speak real english.
10isdad. Dobson at Red Mountain.
Red Mountain 8-1 or 9-0? You going to be down there to give us a report on how Brown and Curral look for this upcoming weekend?
^ Snap out of it.
It is embarassing and thought provoking to play a "country club sport" with all the money and trappings people are willing to spend- And then go down to Nogales to play a High School match. I think every player should, though.
To compare and contrast the two teams lives and surroundings, all the while trying to be good sports when the talent levels are so much different, as well, should (maybe) be manditory.
I would (just once) love to see a collection taken up- " (so-called) used" rackets, practice balls, pick up baskets for other HS teams by an association of more fortunenate HS players and teams some day.
^^^I, for one, donated nearly a dozen racquets to P.A.S.S. and an organization in Colorado to help provide equipment to the more underprivileged. I urge others to do so, as well.
Another shake-up in the boys 18s. Saleem dropped out. He played a high school match against Nguyen Tuesday, but evidently his back is too tender to play the tourney this weekend. That moves Hoffmann up to a seed. A 3-star SoCal freshman takes Hoffmann's place to face McDaniels.
Yeah. I wasn't poking fun. It's cool that they play.
10isdad, thoughts on red mt. dobson today?
^^^Not really. 5-4 is pretty much the same as 9-0 since it's a 'team' effort. RMHS has more depth. If DHS played amazing and RMHS had an off day RMHS would still win 5-4.
Tehrani over Hoffman today 6261. Tehrani served unbelievable. Wasn't broken once.
Congrats to Red Mountain today.
Does anyone know where to find the tentative tennis schedules for next year?
Checking the scores and seeing that Nate Paulson took out Spizman to go 3-0 against this year. That's very impressive.
10isdad, did you get any pictures or did you attend this match?
How did brown or curral look?
also catalina foothills high school killed cdo... i think i heard the best match was zach haffor v andre smith...6-4 6-0 ??im not to sure
Doesn't Jacob Spizman usually beat Nate Paulson? Is he just playing poorly this year?
also john p and fahd, daniel h and zach h,and brandon a and garret f all won their doubles
Nate beat Jacob all three times? He must be playing really well right now even though he only plays high school. Heard him and kc hit every once in a while too and i think there playing doubles at state. At least thats what nate said when we played them in highschool. they are my "dark horse" for state. I know KC and Nate really want to finish their junior careers with a bang and know they will bring their A Game. I heard10isdad say kasey struggled before with their number two? how did he do. Also why are you so critical on Red Mountain, especially kc. hes a pretty good friend of mine and i think hes a fairly decent player. A big win for Tehrani, 2,1 is impressive. Hes my pick for the valley of the sun! As for 18's nick and carlos final, not sure who will win...
o yeah by the way
will you be taking photos of the valley of the sun? and every othe big tournament comin up
Tehrani is the clear choice for valley of the sun. Kid is straight up ballin' right now. Mayer will be his toughest match, but Cam knows how to win with his incredibly cool demeanor and smart playing style on the court.
Nate's played well and JSpiz has played poorly. I know I've pointed out before they (Paulson/Spizman) have had really close, tough matches dating back to the 12s. I think it's now 5 to 4 in favor of Jake, but Nate's won the last 3. Nate deserved all 3 wins this season. He made significantly fewer errors.
When was I critical of RM or Kasey? I pointed out that they (RM) were no where near as deep as Brophy or Corona. Daycrawler tried to argue that RM and Corona was a "wash-up". Lo and behold, they lost to both, losing also to Desert Vista, which was a surprise to me. They also lost to Desert Mountain, which I think may be a fluke, though I don't think RM would win in a blow-out. I felt, even in the beginning of the season, that RMHS was probably the 4th best team. At that time, before the season started, I figured Richie would play for Salpointe, thus had them at #3 and RM at #4. See post 235 in the Tennis in Arizona thread...
Semantics, but I believe I wrote that Currell struggled last season against Malik (a kid with absolutely no formal training). He was down a break and some break points when his opponent rolled an ankle. I never speculated that he would actually lose the match, just that he struggled. Currell won both this year, the second relatively easily. The first was somewhat close (3 & 3).
Critical of Currell? Daycrawler wrote that Paulson/Currell were extremely strong and could beat Chalmers/Salvatore or Paulson/Ogren. I believe I said Currell's serve wasn't good enough to not get broken against those guys - which I still believe is true. Take yesterday when Paulson/Currell lost 8-4 to Spizman and Campbell-ONeill. The latter used to do a tennis clinic back when he was 10. He's never had private lessons and only picks up his racquet during tennis season. He never hits outside of HS practice. Currell broken twice, Paulson broken once. Clearly, Paulson/Currell are the more experienced team but proved very vulnerable. They'll have to play much better in state. I also mentioned some technical flaw in his forehand. He reads these posts, so that is being helpful, not critical. Last tourney in Tucson, he came to me and asked "What's wrong with my forehand?", so it wasn't unwarranted.
BTW - it was kinda funny to see Currell bust his racquet, but it gets pretty old hearing him yell "Unbelievable!!!" every time his opponents hit a winner or he makes an error.
Yes. Took some pics. Currell looked decent yesterday. As in the post before, it does get tiresome hearing him yell "unbelievable" or drop his racquet or bend over and grab his knees when his opponent hits a winner or he makes an error - moreso when he's clearly dominating in his match. He needs to learn to give some props to his opponents...
Didn't see much of Brown's match, as it was into the sun and his opponent is inexperienced. Not much point in watching a squash... Of course, it was close last time the two played, but that was probably a fluke. The opponent had his first formal training this past summer, which consists of a small clinic at Dobson Ranch. Brown is certainly much more experienced and should have won as big as he did. Kienitz looked good. 1-hander is coming along nicely. Forehand is still kind of odd-looking. He can whack it pretty big, but it's not too consistent. Frankly, Kienitz/Brown look more like a doubles team than Paulson/Currell. The latter are better singles players, but the former interact better as a team, are much more active at net and seem to have more fun on court.
Foothills swept CDO.
Haffor V. Andre Smith 6-1 6-0,
The FOOTHILLS girls are lock step with the boys.
Catalina Foothills 8, Canyon del Oro 1

ooo ok yeah 6-1 6-0 ops...have any results for boys? also where did u get these results?
Got the results from TUCSON CITIZEN electronic paper this AM.
How did 1/3rd Bermudez triangle land at CDO and her brothers at PV?
The coach has not been very good about following up calling the papers lately with team results- I did hear this competition was going to be covered by Foothill's younger team members, but some varsity just wanted out of school because of parent-teacher's conferences going on.
Still waiting to hear about plans coming from meetings held at District 16 school district, Talking about cutting sports out completely for 1/2 million dollar savings. This type idea may sweep alot of other school districts state wide- If not the major sports, then the minor ones.
I'm hoping for those schools who do take this turn- Maybe tennis players/ tennis teams will be given a chance to pay thier own way- a crumby alternative, but better than no tennis at all.
4handwinner &riponeverything- Remind me later, you both seem to have quite a future as a potential sports agents, (maybe you can start with charging Tehranni for all the drum beating).
I actually plan on being a sports agent, so I'll let you know when I'm making bank.
^ Get that account opened with the money Tehranni should be paying.
Do you know who plays on Chaparral?
Have they faced any good teams? What's thier record?
Hoffman plays one for Chaparral and Luber plays 2. Cameron Tehrani at one and Keyon Tehrani at 2 are wayy to good for what chapparal has to offer.
Looking (really) ahead to Regionals/State because I saw an article in the REPUBLIC calling out Norte Dame as an up and coming "dynasty" 4A-II.
I realized 4A-II contains Palo Verde in Tucson, and some siblings just might have a say on that-THEN I was working the match ups for 4A-I.
There has been some realignments so it's one thing to figure which school's have programs of note, another to figure the players, Thanks.
Now- Good luck to everyone and on with posts on Vof S results (before USTA postings)
18s update quarters are not quite decided but: D Bermudez plays either Salvatore or Hoffmann. Lineberry plays Montoya (who absolutely squashed McDaniels). C Bermudez plays Bruchmiller and Lawson plays Chalmers.
Round of 16: DBermudez beat Carr something like 3 & 0 or 4 & 0. Lineberry beat Sehorn 1 & 4. CBermudez beat Hyman pretty badly. Bruchmiller beat PTaylor badly. Lawson beat Spizman 5 & 4 and Chalmers rallied from a 1-5 first set deficit to beat O'Connor in straights.
