Vcore 100 (2023) strings

Hi there,
I'm searching for the best string (hybrid) for my recently bought Vcore 100.

I have the following 4 round strings at home and only want to use one of them or a hybrid of them:

- Kirschbaum Evolution
- Kirschbaum Max Power
- MSV Co Ultra
- MSV Swift

I mainly want to tame the launch angle of the racquet a bit.

If I tried all possible hybrids, it would be ~16 combinations, so too many to test out. So I'd appreciate it if you could give me advice which combinations I should definitely try and which ones definitely not.

What tension do you normally play at? Have you used this racket and or these strings before?

Full bed of Max Power would probably be your lowest launching option but at the sacrifice of maybe some comfort. If you want lowest possible launch then start here but know that it's going to maybe feel firm and boardy at higher tensions.

Full bed of Evolution has worked well for me in multiple frames and is very comfortable even at high tensions. Just a great all round poly.

I would maybe start with the Evolution full bed and then based off of comfort and launch conditions transition to maybe a Max Power/Evolution hybrid if you want something firmer feeling.

I've been demoing the Vcore 100 for 3 weeks and have now decided to buy a pair of them. The tension I tested them at was 21 kg with some cheap poly. Probably 1 kg more would be better.

Thank you for your suggestion!

Most welcome. Also the Evolution looks great in the Vcores! I used it a lot in my VC95 couple years back

Any recommendations generally on some good poly strings for a recreational player using a vcore 100. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend Kirschbaum Evolution for you as well. It's such a good all round poly, very comfortable, good tension maintenance, and the color looks great in the Vcore.

Solinco Outlast is another really solid all round poly that I feel like gets overlooked. Also very comfortable, good spin, good tension maintenance, also will look good in the Vcore.

There are tons of strings but these two come to mind when I'm imagining a poly that does everything really well

@Arcturus - If by "tame" you mean lower the launch angle, then you want to increase the following, in order from most impactful to least:
  1. Round Shape
  2. Higher Tension / String Bed Stiffness
  3. Cross Tension Higher Than Mains Tension (for safety of the frame, don't differ more than ~10-15%)
  4. Cross Gauge Higher Than Mains Gauge
  5. Thicker Gauge of entire string bed
For starters, all the poly's you listed are round, so Step 1 is accomplished. Then you can adjust Steps 2 - 5 depending on how much lowering of the launch angle you need.

For a specific string choice, a general rule is to use the softest, most pliable, highest-powered, highest-spin string that is still durable enough, strung at the lowest tension that you can still control. Then you factor in the racquet: all Yonex's, VCore included, are pretty muted, so the more crisp the better, and the VCore 100 has a pretty open, launchy pattern, so I'd lean towards thicker gauge (mid-upper 1.20's poly, 1.30+ non-poly).

All of that factored in, I would suggest you start with Evolution or Swift, both of which will be a bit more supple and forgiving than Max Power or Co Ultra, while still providing adequate feel and control. If you push up in tension much higher than 50 lbs and find you still want more control and/or a lower-powered response, then I would consider Co Ultra, starting with it in the 40's, and finally Max Power as the lowest-powered / most-controlled.

Hope that helps. Any questions, feel free.

I am not a big fan of full round stringbed, more hybriding with shaped or fully shaped stringbed

Have you ever considered gut/poly? use one of those polys as a cross? I have this racket and it is my secret sauce...
No I haven't actually. I've tried multi/poly before in my Ezone 98 which broke after 5h, so in the Vcore 100 it would last even less time.
About gut, I'm not sure whether I want to spend so much money. Sure, it keeps tension longer, but you have to keep an eye on weather etc.

As far as weather, really the only downside is water. I've only had one, maybe 2 string snaps that I attributed to wetness in the last 5 years.
Leaving your racket outside in the car in sub 32 degree weather, or allowing it into the hold of a plane where it is going to get down to below zero isn't good for any kind of string

money? Yes, gut is more expensive. Figure about $42.00 per set. that translates into $21.00 per 1/2 set. But premier multis and polys are starting to creep above $22.00 per set.
So.... you are looking about $10 or $11 more per string job. If you cut out poly as soon as it goes dead, the price differential is even smaller.

I suggest you give it a try, out of the 10-15 people I have convinced to try it, only 1 went back to poly.....

Update:
I've been playing with Swift 1.25 in one racquet and Evolution 1.20 in the other racquet for a couple of hours, both initially strung at 22 kg (48 lbs).

I find the Swift to be more powerful than the Evolution, i.e. I really can't attack with the Swift racquet and I am always afraid of overhitting. It's better with the Evolution racquet, but I feel like the swingweight is a bit different due to the different gauges. I will continue to play with them for a couple more hours and then test Co Ultra as well, I think this should give me more control than Evolution.
