Testing out different multifilament strings. So far I like X-1 Biphase strung at 50lbs. **
** I run multifilament strings due to arm issues. I've started playing (again) this past July after a 25yr hiatus and, suffice to say, the biggest difference I noticed since coming back are polyester strings. I just don't get it. They are stiff and hurt the arm. I've never had any arm issues and didn't even know what tennis elbow was until I started playing with polyester. Granted I go through multifilament strings frequently, but that seems to be a small price to pay to continue playing.
For mine, I had them initially matched at the shop (310 g / 30.8 cm / 283 sw) and have since then done the following:
- 6 g at 12g
- Yonex Leather Grip
- Yonex Super Grap OG
- No dampener (I find its already dampened enough with VDM)
I've used a number of strings but my favourite so far is Solinco Confidential 1.25 @ 48 lb (but currently toying with going up to 1.30 and dropping the tension slightly). I would highly recommend a crisp string otherwise I find the stringbed too muted (again due to VDM).
One thing to flag that I've found is that the racket responds really well to weight. That said, I found when putting weight in a depolarised orientation (3 & 9) it made the racket swing notably slower and feel 'clubby' - as such I stuck with a depolarised setup; YMMV.
