Vcore 95d

Of course lead at 12 and swingweight is a factor of swing speed and consistency of swing and timing.

I hear reports that this stick feels stiff in the hoop, but from others I know who have delicate arms who say this is very comfortable.....anyone wish to explain further?

Ditto on what Meaghan asks. Also as far as controlling swing speed with lead, didn't someone create a massive thread detailing lead setups as well as explaining the whole swing weight 1 and swingweight 2 thing. From a physics perspective force = mass time acceleration so the whole thing about lead adding plow and power etc i don't see that as distinct from swing speed. Take a scenario where you generate more speed with a slightly lighter racquet for more power or moving a heavier racquet with more weight slightly slower will generate the same power and plow. This however ceases to be the case when talking about racquet head speed for spin in terms of the modern game where there are diminishing returns in terms of the maximum weight one can use without diminishing their max RHS.

Can anyone tell me what the polarization of this racquet is like?

If is polarized like say a Blade98, slightly polarized like a Wilson 6.1, or very non-polarized like a Prestige MP?

I found it to be a firm racket, but comfortable. Same as I find most of the wilson 6.1 line. I never felt any pain when demoing it.

Torres-

From what I recall, if I had to take a stab at it, Id say it's slightly polarized like a wilson 6.1. It's definitely not polarized like say the k90 was.

For everyone that considering this racquet :
This is one of the most comfortable 95" racquet in the market. It is also very forgiving.
The power is definitely higher than Pure Storm Ltd. but less than IGRP, nothing to worry about and people should not be worry of unable to control the power.
A must demo for this racquet.
Cheers. :)

Okay I've had my 95ds for a couple of months and best thing I can say about them is when I miss a shot I never look at the racquet. I know the error was not the the racquet's fault but my fault. Okay maybe the strings were dead!

Honestly, it does no wrong. There are probably other sticks that do certain things better than the 95d, but as a whole package it's great. Proof of this fact lies in that people are still discussing this racquet well after its introduction. Very few frames have this staying power.

Nothing is wrong with Yonex!

I'm heavily considering buying a pair of these rackets.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these as curiosity about them has almost got the better of me, but.....

Could anyone give a view on whether I might like the 95d based on my racquet history/preferences below?

BLX 6.1 18x20 - my racquet of choice for the last couple of years. Love the control and the solidity, but as I'm getting older (I'm in my late 30s), I'm starting to realise how much physically hard work it is compared to so many other racquets out there and how 100% 'on' you need to be get the best of out it.

BLX 6.1 18x20 Team -
love it manouverability, feel and flex. Such a fun stick to hit with, but a bit too light really for serious match play.

BLX Juice Pro
16x20: Recently switched to one of these. Not wildly dissimilar to the 6.1 - more polarized - but its an easier swing and the more open pattern improves my percentages when I'm not 100% 'zoned'. Not a classic stick, and not perfect, but I'm generall liking it so far.

Youtek / IG Prestige MP
. I own/owned both iterations. Both needed to be leaded as I didn't like the fact that they were both were so non-polarized in stock form with an absence of enough mass in the upper hoop, and such a low SW. Love the control these sticks offer and generous hoop size but after leading up, we're back into 'physically hard work' territory at 350g+. I actually preferred the Youtek for the greater feedback even though its admittedly too brassy and less comfortable. The IG just felt far too dampened.

Is the 95d likely be a good fit, or just a brief flirtation? Never really played with Yonex apart from briefly with one when I was kid and the only thing I remember about it was the feeling that the ball was getting lost in the huge stringbed (I think it was a 100sq" isometric). Everyone says its very powerful but the SW seems very low. I'm not generally a fan of a stringbed providing all the power - I prefer more of a contribution from the mass of the racquet and my swing as well ie no 'Big Bubba' type racquets!

One way to quantify polarization was devised by Cross, Brody and Lindsey and called the "polarization index" in "The Physics and Technology of Tennis." The index is recoil weight divided by static weight.

BLX Blade 98 (319g/33.5cm/334SW): .50
BLX 6.1 (high swingweight QC variations, like 346g/31.7cm/336SW): .52
BLX 6.1 (low swingweight QC variations, like 346g/31.7cm/325SW): .47
IG Prestige Midplus (337g/32.7cm/310SW): .41

95D (337g/32cm/317SW): .47

Very useful. Thanks Corners.

Do you know where all the supposed power comes from then, given the Prestige MP like low SW?

So I guessed right haha. The way I describe the 95D is an easier to use Wilson 6.1 and thats a big compliment in my opinion.

I have noticed all vcore sticks play with more pop than the posted sw would suggest. The 98 is a cannon. The 95 is gram for gram the most powerful 95 out there. It handles like a prestige but way more bump on the ball.

No prob. I don't know where the supposed power comes from. But I guess Yonex says it comes from the vcore throat, which would really only have an effect on off-center shots. Since most shots are off-center, such effects could be significant over the course of a match or practice session and feel even more so. But I haven't hit the frame so have no first-hand knowledge (not that that would be useful or in any way accurate anyway.)

good to hear.

what have you strung them with?

(and is the paint still falling off if you look at it sideways?)

The paint seems to be holding, but I'm not really paying attention as I just grab the racquet and hit the court. Right out of the bag I won a tournament with maybe 2 practice matches beforehand. It seemed to suit me very well. I purchased a RDiS 200 as well as they are inexpensive and well reviewed, but it just doesn't give me the same results.

As for strings, I've tried Genesis Typhoon (53lb) and Pro Supex Big Ace Revo (54/52) and both seem pretty good Typhoon a little softer and more control with Revo. I liked the Outlast and might try it at 53lb. I no longer have those back fence fliers, but have some difficulty with touch volleys (probably due to the full poly set up.)

So yes I'm happy with the purchase!

Very useful indeed, corners, but where do I find the recoil weight of a particular racket? I presume it must be related to the swingweight, but then I don't understand values of around .5 for the index given that swingweight and static weight are generally in the same ballpark.

95d plays wery good with Poly Tour Spin @ 23/22kg.

Tried also Poly Tour Pro 1.25 with different tensions and ended up liking 25/24kg the most.

I like mostly PTS more in this racket because the racket itself is wery muted and I didn't get any feedback from PTP. I even liked PT HS more than PTP in this stick do the lack of feedback of that I got with PTP.

Spin PTS
Control PTS
Directional control PTS
Comfort. PTP
Feedback in 95d PTS
Power PTP

Btw I play with stock (no lead added) 95d's.

Any one tried gut/poly in this racquet? I've demo'd it a bit and like everything about it except it seems a little stiff on some shots, but could have been the demo string. I've enjoyed gut/poly in other racquets (including the Vcore 97T that I have). The gut seems to soften things up a bit but the poly still provides that crispness that I like.

i should be stringing my 95d this weekend with toughgut and a poly.

not so sure about which poly and the tensions to go for but i don't hit with a ton of spin so i was thinking toughgut/silverstring at 57/52?

if that doesn't work out i always have a full set of PTS at home waiting to be cracked open. :D

Try yptp for crosses at 53 prestrecth 10%.
I'm reaaly impressed with it, my main at the moment is classic gut 16L at 55.

nice.. i was always curious about the yonex strings in a gut/poly setup. i have a full bed of PTP in at 52/50 but not really loving the feel tbh. what do you like about exactly about PTP in your setup?

Softness, power, predictability.

^^thanks. :)

may want to pick a crisper poly to crispen up the stringbed though. finding a full bed of PTP in the 95d a tad too dampened.

i'm also holding back on stringing the 95d up with nattygut cos it's been raining like crazy over here. really afraid what moist balls will do to the gut.. (sounds gross)

I demoed it and I did not like it. I just bought two and I am not sure why. they just have two much power and not stiff enough. I even strung my hybrid tight at 56 lbs with the poly. My arm does not get tired like mid rdis, but it just felt so much better from the baseline. the vcore is not that great for serves. there is no plowthrough for me. dont get me wront though, it is very light and easy to move, just the rdis feels so much better from the back of the court. the only thing that I would pick the vcore for is play time. I played five sets today and I was fine. with the rdis I get tired after like three.

speaking of lead, anyone tried some at 3 and 9? does it do anything significant? can't seem to find a lead setup i'm happy with..

Can you explain what recoil weight is in simple terms? My understanding of polarization is the weight being distributed mostly to the two extreme ends of the racket?

I hit with 89 and 98D and I hate the 89 but I love the 98D...

It's a big difference between 95D and 98D?

I loved the 89 cosmetics but I hated 98D's cosmetics and shape.

I like square shape, but it felt square near the throat but round near the head.
Ugly red grommet and white inside the throat.

97 looks much better.

What string set up are you guys using with this racquet? I'm loving it coming from a k90 it has been a big change, I'm hitting better than ever. I think this racquet benefits from a control string like 4G. One thing I miss is feel, even though I hit great I'm never co fi dent of going for my shots. I don't have the feeling of precision I had from the K90.

I'm also curious as to what racquets are similar to the 95d but with better feel/control?

I also switched to the 95D from a K90. I much prefer the 95D for everything except maybe the serve.

I use Volkl Cyclone at usually 56 / 54 lbs (mains / crosses).
I also changed the grip to a Fairway leather grip and then added a couple grams to the head. Unstrung weight is now about 332 grams I think.
