Vcore 98 modification

Hi all, I currently have a Vcore 98 and I am struggling to get my 1HBH working, I've picked a friends prestige tour (ex Pro) and automatically started hitting a fluid backhand.

I know that Vcore is not one of the most 1HBH friendly rackets but I also know I cannot play a whole match with a prestige Pro, and the Vcore 98 is the one I have. So as I guess some of you probably had similar issues, how did you or how would you customize the VC98 to make it more 1HBH friendly?

Thanks!

What specifically about the vc98 is giving you trouble on your backhand? For me it’s one of the most natural one hander racquets I have but our mechanics may differ. Based on your comparison maybe you are used to more weight to get the one hander momentum going?

Put just a little bit of weight at 12 o'clock to help you 'feel' the tip more.
You could possibly also try the longbody version of the Vcore 98 - either the soon to be superseded one or the one apparently due out around August, or perhaps even the 95".

If you grew up with wood or other small headed racquets, even a 98" can feel like a table tennis bat - all head and no handle. Additionally the bridge and sweet spot are usually closer to the hand on a 98" or especially a 100" than with a smaller head, so there's less leverage as well.

Really don't know what is it, but the whole flow of my 1HBH gets out of sync, don't know if it is the weight, speed or power of the racquet, probably the combination of all was I also find many times stopping the movement to avoid overhitting.

Thanks!

Thanks! I will try it.

I could definitely identify with the overhitting issue! More so with the 23VC98 than other racquets I had to focus on that upward finish to add spin on the 1hbh and keep it in the court.

I am used to frames around 12.1 to 12.6 oz. I need to feel the weight coming through the strike zone on my 1HBH. When I first started hitting with the vcore98, I found it a bit too light and my BH would sail a bit, or I was getting way ahead of the ball. I added a TW leather grip and a little weight at 3:00 & 9;00 and even though it is still a light frame for what I am used to (11.9 oz ), I am slowly getting used to the feel and weight of this frame and am really starting to enjoy it. Play loose and deliberate, and the ball just jumps off the string bed. I can't guide the ball with this frame very well, so full swings are an absolute necessity to keep good control on my shots.

I am having exactly same challenges as you, and also struggling to find a string other than poly tour rev17 that can work overall. Tried polytour rev 16l, lynx tour, 48-54lbs range, and still got lots of sprays out baseline line and dip into net. Any suggestions from you?

echoing the sentiments of others, i'd try 4-5 different frames and determine if there's an underlying technical issue

frames can definitely influence quality of shot, but dont think a common frame like the VC98 should break your stroke

I'm a 2hbh user, but since switching to the vcore 98, my 1hbh has been feeling wonderful with it! Now, depending on which model of prestige tour you're talking about, they have very different specs. The current generation is 6pts head light and 330 in SW according to TW. The Vcore 98 is at 318 SW strung, which is significantly different. I have enjoyed putting just a little bit of weight at 12 o'clock on this racquet, which for me preserves a speedy swing while helping the racquet finish through the contact point with a good solid feel. Depending on your swing mechanics, weight at 3 & 9 o'clock can be helpful too.
