Venus Williams defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight sets (63 64) to reach the ladies' semi-finals.

Venus is in good form after defeating Sharapova & Kuznetsova and she looks good to claim her 4th Wimbledon title.

I agree. Venus has a legit shot to take Wimbledon for the fourth time.

But, I worry about her inconsistency. Ivanovic could beat her, though I think Venus will win.

So, I guess I won't be surprised if she wins Wimbledon, or if she loses in the SFs or final.

But, I worry about her inconsistency.
She was very controlled yesterday. She wasn't even grunting. Of course, Sharapova was helping her out a bit, but I could definitely see Venus winning the whole thing if she keeps that up.

I dont see her beating Henin in the final. Venus was great vs Sharapova but like Mary Joe said Venus and Serena find it easier to play great vs Sharapova then almost anyone else, and plus Sharapova is scared of them now and plays dreadful tennis with junior quality serving now when she plays them. She played well today but Kuznetsova is still garbage compared to Henin, and even today seemed pretty close, moreso then the score suggest.

Venus Williams better not....freaking ugly biatch :S....im sure Hingis will beat her.

Henin could definitely beat Venus. But, I don't like how she closed out Serena. Henin may be a bit on edge trying to win her first Wimbledon. I like Henin, love her game, and appreciate her desire. But, I don't know why everyone thinks she's money in the bank. She has stepped up big in Slam finals, but she's also faltered. Everyone thought she'd win last year. Everyone thought she'd win the US Open over Sharapova.

Not saying she is by any means not a big match player. But, she has her moments just like everyone else.

Venus v. Henin would be interesting and has some historical signficance as to where they rank among the greats.

If Henin win, she has won 7 Slams and a career Grand Slam. Venus still only has 5 Slams

If Venus wins, she has 6, slams, including 4 Wimbledons. Henin still has 6, including 4 French Opens.

So, at least in theory, Henin separates herself from Venus with a win and moves into Serena territory as far as her resume is concerned.

I think Venus will win because she has won there last meetings 7 times in a row and henin only once. So my money is on Venus(thats if they reach the finals of course).

Venus's last meeting with Justine's was in January of 2003. Their head to head means squat all. Venus is lucky she hasnt played Justine since then more often.

Judging how Henin played against an injured Serena yesterday, I think Venus can take and will win Wimbledon. Venus is faster that Serena and I like her strokes better than Serena's at this point! Go Venus!!!!

If you think Justine will play the kind of mediocre match she played vs Serena automaticaly in the final you are nuts. She was serving terrible vs Serena and missing lots of easy shots, which is why she went 3 sets with even an injured Serena. She is saving her best performance for when she needs it, which she didnt in that match. Venus already played her best match with Sharapova. She played good against Kuznetsova, but as good as vs Sharapova, so she has already peaked this event. Justine has tons to grow from that mediocre Serena match.

I think you are nuts if you are implying that Justine was "saving herself" for "when she needs it" LOL That was a good joke! That's why she was cursing at her coach, because she wasn't really trying...............yeah sure! The reason why Justine missed the serves and some "easy" shots, was that she was choking in my opinion. Why.....because she really wanted to beat Serena and was giving that matcha gainst Serena her all. Venus wil avenge her sister's loss to Henin if they meet in the final.

At the beginning of the week I didnt give Venus much chance, but it would be good to see her get to the final and beat Henin.

In order of preference I'd like to see Ivanovic, then Venus then Henin win. If I was betting on it I might take Venus over Henin in the final.

If Venus continues to play like what she did to Sharapova and Kuznetsova, she'll be in the finals and possibly win the crown.

There is no doubts that Henin is a more consistent player and the favorite.
But don't forget on how Venus beat Davenport in the finals two years ago when Davenport was the favorite and Venus was the underdog. As far as Wimbledon is concerned, we have to respect 3-time champion no matter how she fares in other tournamnents.

Let's wait and see.

Venus played a brilliant final with some clutch tennis to beat Davenport. However also keep in mind Davenport lost her nerve at crucial moments to allow that to happen. Davenport played timid apprehensive tennis whenever she was in position to close at a key moment. Justine wont do that if she gets in the same position. She is not noted for coming up small in the big moments like Davenport was.

Venus-Bartoli finals. Venus, go go all the way!

The commentator said that Venus is now a much better player than 2 years ago when she beat Davenport.

I'm so sorry for Henin. What a shock defeat for Henin by Bartoli!

Im going for Bartoli, I think she has a good shot at it.

Venus is shining again

It can’t be, it just can’t. Surely this is a chapter we’ve read before, two years ago? Back then absolutely no one tipped her for the title, and she took it just the same. Here we are in 2007 and Venus is setting a new record as the lowest seeded ladies player to make a Wimbledon final. She is seeded 23 this year (and ranked eight places lower than that).

Two years ago, when nobody thought she had a shout, she was seeded a comparatively heady 14 and went on to win her third Wimbledon crown. Today she marked her 50th career singles win at Wimbledon by winning through to her sixth final in eight years.

One of these days we’ll learn not to dismiss her chances, and it might be a good idea if we started now by considering her a mighty good bet for the title. Who says? 9-time champion and all-time Wimbledon queen Martina Navratilova, that’s who.

“I haven’t seen Venus look this good in a long time,” said an awed Navratilova after Venus trampled Ana Ivanovic 6-2, 6-4. “I think she’s playing better now than she did two years ago when she won the title.

“On her serve she is unrelenting. How great is she covering the court? So fast. She’s been so imposing at the net. She’s been playing better and better every match, and here she is in the final again, playing dominating tennis. She’s going to be hard to beat in the final, no question about it. Who would have thought it after two of her first three matches here?”

Here are how Venus progressed to the finals:
R1 Venus Williams def Alla Kudryavtseva 26 63 75
R2 Venus Williams def Hana Sromova 62 62
R3 Venus Williams def Akiko Morigami 62 36 75
R4 Venus Williams def Maria Sharapova 61 63
QF Venus Williams def Svetlana Kuznetsova 63 64
SF Venus Williams def Ana Ivanovic 62 64

Bartoli is the epitome of winning ugly.

Besides being a fatty, those ghastly double handers look terrible(anyone for baseball) and she has the mobility of the Kenworth truck. However she has heart though.

Give the trophy to Venus already.

She's too good mentally to choke. She's better than this Bartoli and she knows it. 21 winners (vs 6) and counting.

Bravo Venus! To all those who didn't think she still had it in her, don't ever count her out! Venus didn't play as well as she could have & may have been beaten if she were against Henin, but Venus was meant to win. At the beignning of this tournament, even her father said that she would win.

Having Venus win is bad...real bad. But kudos to Venus. She didnt cheat. She played well and she won. Henin could have given a better fight (or defeat her). But Henin wasnt good enough to win against a 23 ranked player.

That said, I hate to see Williams brothers win grandslams and talk trash.

Henin lost!!! Get over it ...

Congratulations Venus! I know you can do it again and again!

That makes the two siblings the favorites on coming US Open.

Venus & Henin have now won 6 Grand Slams each.

Venus would have ran over Henin if she was in the final. :)

As for Richard's prediction...He is a prophet I think. Its so weird how he can really say this stuff out of no where. He predicted his girls would be 1 and 2 in the world, be very successful and etc.

Also, Venus & Henin with 6 Grand Slams but, Venus's Wimbledons are more prestigous than Henin's...French Open? I believe so!

This year's GrandSlam system is pretty much identical to 2005.

2005:
AussieOpen-Serena
FrenchOpen-Henin
Wimbledon-Venus
UsOpen-Clijsters

2007:
Aussie-Serena
French-Henin
Wimbledon-Venus
Usopen-???

Its going to be interesting seeing Clijsters has retired. I think Na Li might have a breakthrough-her game is most similar to Kim's.

How far do you think they will move her up in the seedings next year at wimbledon? They need to put her atleast in the top 4 i think.

I think with Venus the seeding doesn't matter, at the same time she still has to play leading up to Wimbledon. She will get what she works for and hopefully she will be a little more consistent during the 1st half of the year.
