Venus Williams vs. Martina Hingis....who will win?

I am excited about this match. As you know, I have been a loyal fan of Venus since the beginning. However, I do think that Martina has an advantage. This is only Venus' 2nd tournament coming off of injury. If it wasn't her first tournament back in 5 months, then I would favor Venus, for sure. But I am willing to admit that Hingis will probably out last her. Hingis is just too consistant off the ground right now and Venus is still kind of rusty. But if for some reason Venus can find some inner-motivation (which she usually does) she without a doubt could pull out a win. It just depends on which Venus shows up, either the error proned one or the confident warrior that she was at Wimbledon. I just hope Venus plays a good match. I'm sure she'll get another opportunity later in the year.

Martina should win. The Venus you referred to in Wimbledon started off very rusty in the early rounds and swiftly worked herself into form. That seems to be how Venus plays lately - if she survives the early rounds she tends to get better as the tournament progresses. Martina would be too much this early on.

Then again, it's always difficult to predict what will happen with either of the Williams sisters.

Venus will win if she attacks the net. Hingis has no power to hit real good passing shots, her balls will sit up for Venus!

But she hits arguably the best lobs in the WTA.

How about 80 UE?

You realize that was a common stat when Venus was winning slams? Womens' tennis really isn't about how many errors, but how many winners. If Venus can hit 50 or so winners every match, she'll have a great year, regardless of the amount of errors.

I wonder if Martina will win another GS.I am not so sure on that.I hope she does but i think she will have to have a mix game, like serve and volley cause i think she just cant go from baseline to baseline.

You are right, but for this year I think it is just for Martina to get back into the swing of things ie getting a feel for the courts, and the players, then she can come up with better stratagies.

But yes she has to get another weapon so that she can better execture/take advantage from her stratagies.

I would like to see her with a different coach and a good strength coach that does not use conventinal weights from a gym, so as to just build explosive strength with out add body weight.

Many times she just looks like she is not strong enough and wishes she was:confused:

If the stars can align once so that Dementieva and Myinska can be in a GS final (Dementieva twice) then anything is possible.

It seems to me that most of the top women in the WTA are frequently suffering from either injuries (Clijsters, Henin, Davenport, Williams), spotty play (Kuznetsova and Sharapova haven't exactly been dominating lately), or confidence issues (Mauresmo, Petrova, Schnyder). So, as I said, if the right things fall into place I think she could do it.
