Venus Williams will play in Washington

Venus is an ATG-level player. Her victory over Stearns was impressive, even if Stearns is a complete waste of space between the ears. Her level was solid, she was hitting the ball well, serving well and moving pretty well for someone that's 45 years of age. Very few women would be able to do what Venus did this week at her age.

Once she won, the question then became : can she sustain that level of intensity and form for more than one match and actually carry that through to 2/3/4 matches? Well this week, the answer was no. Tonight she looked like the Williams that left the sport 18 months ago.

Frech is basically a Walmart Wozniacki. No weapons, but will run and defend for days and hit the occasional winner, but her game is built on out-lasting you and making you miss, which probably wasn't what Williams wanted tonight after playing 2 doubles and a singles match the previous 3 days.

We'll see how she goes in Cincy.

I want her to rest up and bring that crispiness we saw a couple days ago. She’s still so electric on a good day. Gonna enjoy every last match :D

Venus is just all class and her ball striking is still really good but I have to say that the match with sterns was a little bit strange because Sterns was barely moving herself, and I'm not sure if she was injured since she had that wrap there, but she was late to all the balls and was spraying them. If she wasn't injured then it seems like kind of a fishy match because today's match was pretty much what I expected yesterday's match to be like.

Don't sugarcoat it !!! Stearns was god awful in that match.
People were thinking Frech wouldn't be a problem have no clue, she makes balls and she was able to move Venus.

Stearns was shockingly awful for an alleged world #35. She was either injured or someone instructed her to take a dive.
Hate to accuse anyone of throwing a match but it was really that bad. Very suspicious.

I haven't thought about that part of it but I certainly believe Venus played the least healthy player in the draw. If she had somehow drawn Raducanu, Osaka or even someone like Fernandez there's no talk of this amazing comeback.

Lol, what a dumb response from the AI.

4/12 of these suggestions are okay. But most of the rest are players that are either already in the Washington draw, or could have entered if they wanted to
  • Robin Montgomery: okay
  • Clervie Ngounoue: given a wild card to qualies (lost in qualies)
  • Ashlyn Krueger: would have been a direct entry if she wanted to play
  • Peyton Stearns: actual direct entry
  • Katie Volynets: okay
  • Taylor Townsend: okay
  • Emma Navarro: actual direct entry
  • Alycia Parks: would have been a direct entry if she wanted to play
  • Hailey Baptiste: actual direct entry
  • Sofia Kenin: actual direct entry
  • Erin Routliffe (doubles star trying to play singles): has not actually played a singles match in more than 2 years
  • Louisa Chirico (resurgence on the ITF circuit): okay
I know and won't do that again. The forum is for human interaction, not artificial responses.
Just human reasoning and logic from now on.

I agreed with two suggestions; Robin Montgomery & Volynets just because I've seen them play.

Yes, all Stearns had to do was rally and she didn't. Either she was injured or something else going on. The number of balks hit like a 12 year old would is wild

And at the same time Venus clearly played several levels below the way she did in her first match. So many neutral balls out and into the net. We will see how she looks in Cincinnati.

Venus won one match, lost the other. The hype over one win over a female tennis player in poor form is exaggerated. Venus hasn't been able to win two consecutive matches on the WTA Tour for over 5 years. What more could there be to show a tennis player that she should hang the racquet on a nail?

Venus will not have a better form, and she doesn't gain participation in the WTA tournaments through her own performances, but because of the WC from the organizers. Unlike other professional tennis players, she is not forced to defend points and has been for quite some time. Her career is at a dead end, without her seeming to admit it.
