Verdasco finally into the Top 10?

Most of us know that Verdasco has a butt load of talent, but the word "potential" has surrounded him for too long. He is currently 11th in the world holding his highest ranking in his career. With a title under his belt and the possibility of another win on the horizon, I am curious if he will finally break into the top ten for the first time.

I'm not sure how he did last year in Canada nor the players just ahead of him in ranking points. With a good run in Canada, does Verdasco gain enough to move into the top ten?

I'd sure like to see it as I have admired his game and groundies for years--I've just always pulled my hair out with his mental toughness. He plays well on the hard courts as well, so maybe by the end of the US Open, he'll have been planted solidly within the top ten...

At least that is my hope.

after winning umag he might gain enough confidence to stop making DF in every important moment what would surely help him come into the top 10

He needs to make almost 200 points more than Murray to get into the top 10 after Toronto, so unlikely for next week.

Generally, he displays formidable tennis, but I've never seen him maintain close to that level throughout the match, rather he tends to have huge amplitudes within an hour and not only when there's pressure because the other guy is catching up and playing better. If that were to change, as well as handling pressure better (those double faults for starters), he should be firmly in top 10. OTOH, there is other candidates I would put there as well with similar caveats 8-)

He definitely showed some peaks and valleys in his first round match. Hope he can stay positive. He and Lopez are two of a kind mentally on the court at times--maybe that's why they always hang out.

No, I think not...it's difficult, see:
9. Andy Murray 1730
10. Stanislas Wawrinka 1660
11. Fernando Verdasco 1475

He's so far than them, plus Stan, Andy and James didn't do well last year in Montreal, I pretty sure the three lost in the 2nd round.
Well, I like Nando, and would like to see him in the top 10. But I'm a no. 1 Wawrinka fan. So I don't want Nando to take his place, maybe Andy's.

So none of them have a lot to defend--that's what I was wondering. Thanks.
