Don't you mean Hall of Losers/Clowns?
He looked in control of the match, up two sets to one. Then at 3-1 up in the fourth set tiebreaker let Anderson back in the match and couldn't recover from that point.
Anderson played really well though.
Nah... that category is reserved for Gael Monfils. 8)
Verdasco does deserve some type of recognition for his choking though.
I will visit his shrine in New Port at The International Tennis Hall of Shame, located in New Port Richey, FL, across the street from the IHOP off the access road.
Worthy of a bump after losing 6-1 6-0 to Nieminen?
Granted Nieminen is a worthy opponent but this scoreline is just unacceptable.
Oh boy, loses his first match in Miami to Falla.
He is now 2-5 in 2013 including a first round loss to #110 Tim Smyczek
I'm sure I've seen someone blow a 5-0 TB lead; just can't remember it. That was impressive. I will say Falla has improved greatly in the last few yrs - good win for him.
Injured? Dumped by gf? Or just a typical 'Fernando being Fernando' moment?
Man Verdasco has come a long way from his days of saying only Nadal could beat him on clay.
Matosevic pretty successful, considering this was his 2nd ever appearance in the main draw of a clay event.
On the verge of making the quarters at SW19...Who would have thought it!!..Assuming he does play Murray (which is most likely), Andy cant afford to float the second serves as he did at times against Robredo as Verdasco can really hurt you on the return. Really looking forward to this match...
Spending 10 mins or there about to entertain myself with this thread was worth it, this thread should be on the first page.
However Verdasco had so many early exits this year, that should have been checked in here.
Verdasco is winning Wimbledon this year.
He has Raffa's racquet.
Verdasco can play realy well on slippery surfaces. I remember him dispatching Nadal on the blue clay of Madrid.
I always thought Verdasco was ridiculously talented. Impressive dispatch of Gulbis. Has he straightened out his service yips? He is known to double fault frequently, and at the most inopportune times.
Yes, he hit some sick shots in that match and was pretty impressive overall. But Nadal still should've won that match, I've never seen him choke away a match like this one.
Is Verdasco a Nadal clone? Spanish, lefty, hits heavy topspin. I'd love to see him do well...to make up for the loss of Rafa.
Is Verdasco finally living up to his potential???
Solid work on the avatar. WCA approves...
Whoa! A lot could happen in the next 24 hrs - Verdy could go Verdy and stink up the place and be back at his Dad's restaurant pounding red wine Tuesday...
Having said that, it would be a nice story. It was starting to look like he was going to be a dubs specialist with Marrero.
Yes, he is
Well, it looks the same from a distance.
Okay, so how has this guy been doing lately?
He started the season pretty badly, probably topped by the 1, 0 loss against Nieminen at IW. But I did read he had some neck problems at the time so we could blame it on that.
He has been doing better lately and hasn't had any embarrassing losses after Monte Carlo. He lost early all the time in the clay season but always to a decent opponenent: Gulbis, Tsonga, Ferrer, Tipsarevic (at RG, 8-6 in the fifth set).
He really impressed me at Wimbledon where he dismissed Gulbis pretty easily, although I haven't seen the match. He also played very good against Murray and was very close to beating him. Maybe that was the start of a better period for Fernando.
Now he's had a decent tournament at Hamburg, where he beat Bautista-Agut and Janowicz. He lost to Delbonis in typical Fiasco fashion, having a match point in the 2nd set and being break up in the 3rd before giving it away. Then he gets a point penalty for hitting a ball into the stands and he's mentally out of it and loses his service game on love and that was pretty much the end of the story.
Anyway, he's doing better now than at the start of the year.
Where do I hop in the Verdasco wagon!? I really hope he wins something big like Cincy or the U.S.
Cincy would be huge
I would be happy if he just made it to the finals!
verdasco fiascoed amazingly against "goat-material" gabashvili.
Never saw this thread until today, but the thread title is catchy, and, more importantly, accurate. In a book of expressions, the one that goes "Million dollar talent, ten cent head" should have his picture by it...along with those of Gulbis, Bird Bytche, and probably Mon-fizz, as well.
Verdasco fiascoed once again in three after beating three jounreymen against murray he folded. Fiasco.
don't forget that verdasco had a lot of health Problems in the last years (mostly knees I think). he is probably not the mentally strongest but if he was consistently healthy he would have had a much better career over the last years.
if is just hard if you cannot consistently Train and Play matches.
Tune in court 11 for more Fiasco right now
Iy lyike andryey, but iy em poolyingk far tabasco this tyime.
Nice to see old friends resurface
Completely collapsed after leading 2 sets to 1, 5-5 .
Kept hitting out all the time.
I get the feeling he is not interested anymore in fighting on court.
If this was on Clay, he would have won today for sure
Yis, dyifiniteliy. Clyay iys more favorabyl far the fiyasco. Fast harcour ett the US opyen, nyet so much.
Very humorous thread title, made me chuckle. Lost to Troicki in the quarters but managed to take a set.
Wow,,what is going on with Fernando........??? GREAT win today against Goffin who is hot player of ATP. Is Verdasco ready to WIN the aussie open ????????????
If Verdasco can be consistent with his game and get his focus straight, this guy can beat ANYONE on tour. His game is lethal and something no one wants to face early of the top guys.
He can go far, if he can be consistent. This has been the story all of his career.
7 year thread ftw
hey, Nando deserves the attention. This guy is super talented with very fun to watch style of play. he should have won a Master or Major by now, but he hasn't ........oh well.
he is on fire one more time
And you know it
Hall of Fiascos
Lets hope he doesn't play RAFA again in aussie open......that would be bad luck for RAFA, our beloved topspinner
Is the International Hall of Fiasco curating memorabilia? I have a med ball sweated on by Forehando Fiasco. In my parents' attic sits a box with a McEnroe signed book, a petr Korda racquet, and some old posters of marcelo rios, jimmy connors, and henri leconte.
Note: these would all go in the "lefty" wing of the International Hall of Fiasco.
I believe the Hall of Fiascos needs more lasting memorabilia for its display...they have received too many donated breadsticks and bagels and apparently all they do is leave a sour taste in the mouth after a while.
I'm also thinking that they should contact Fognini to help curate the HOF, but apparently he's not a good choice as he has issues keeping a consistent temperature. You need a cool 22C otherwise the bakery products start going off too quickly when the temps go up and down like a rollercoaster!
Great win yes, but still took him 5 match points. I thought he was never going to convert any and was preparing for another typical Fiasco-like conclusion to the match with Goffin surviving to come roaring back. Fortunately he finally missed a return off a Nando serve on the 5th match point. Kudos to Nando but I think I'll wait to see if he can string a few wins together first before risking any bets on him for the Aussie Open!!
saw him vs. Goffin and that spin on strokes was evil... It all dived like crazy...
^yes, impressive forehando. Sounds awesome up close.
Also, I have always admired his slice bh.
He has some "Djoko-like" racquet with alu power mains and some clear white cross string...
