Very impressed with the Australian Open

I was very very impressed with the entire AO coverage and event. Huge kudos for the coverage--I'm not sure whether ESPN or someone else handled the technical side, but it was simple awesome. The HD images, super slo-mo and cable camera were just jaw-dropping great. Plus the whole event had an outstanding, fun feel to it. It was simply an outstanding event, IMO, and I enjoyed every minute of it (well, except for those shrieking ladies).

I was just pleased that ESPN took over, was sick of the regular stations in the US doing it, because there were always delays, and it got such a low priority whenever an American wasn't playing. ESPN covered about as much as one could, and that's what was needed and am greatful that ESPN realizes that Tennis is a sport and an important one.

I agree with everything you say. The match was one of the best i have ever watched and the crowd was boistrous and having a great time. The entire AO was terrific. No wonder the players vote it the best tournament of all.

Of course some people will find something to complain about ...too much slo-mo? Was that the fault of the AO tournament director? Oh brother. Ignore the chronic complainers and just remember this amazing match we were priviledged to see. Free.

Well what was meant to be a class act really had me concerned about those two poor players at the end nearly collapsing and those speeches that went on and on - it turned out to be a comedy of horrors. I mean they both must have been in nearly dropping and then at last someone actually thought of bringing them a chair and some water! I think by the time they had finished the speeches Djoko looked as all he wanted was a bed.

Here here. Some people are impossible to please. I can just see them in heaven. "Is that all there is? Those pearly gates are a bit rusty. It's a bit boring this ever lasting joy. I've seen better. I wish they could make the clouds faster. I wish Jesus would stop picking his bum. I think heaven was better in the 90's"

Not impressed at all.

The advertise the men's and women's final for 3 a EST, but the match doesn't start for another hour. Who cares about all the filler crap before the match?

The ball striking and defense has reached ludicrous levels on the men's tour. A nearly six hour match where the power just escalating at the end. Unreal. Strongest era ever.

When the Australian Open rolls around, just about the entirety of Channel 7 shuts down and most of the day is devoted to the tennis. When the news comes on, we can switch to 7TWO to keep on watching tennis and switch back when the news ends. This is a marked difference to the way it's treated elsewhere.

The coverage in Australia was great if you have Foxtel. Fox sports had a court select option, so pairing that with the main channel 7 feed, you could select from 5 different courts at once, as well as having a live feed to the press room for player interviews. Solid stuff.

Too many slo-mos for my liking. Just seemed excessive.
I did enjoy seeing some of the slow-motion shots of the players doing "extreme" maneuvers - like when they were changing direction very quickly or stretching out wide. It really showed the stress their joints are under and made me even more aware of what amazing athletes the top guys - and Kim Clijsters - are.
