Video Of a Few Points

Very good consistency as u both don't make many errors
However you should try to play more aggressive and shorten the points.
Move into the court and do not be afraid to go for more winners
Those long points would be exhausting after a full set
That style was exactly how I played years ago but now I play moderately aggressive

Still playing a push makes u work hard
Pushing style works well at 3.5 to low 4.0

Nice video quality and some entertaining points. You can see that when you get a chance to set up on your forehand and hit it hard, the kick on it bothers even a good player like your friend, at times. I had noticed your friend's backhand in the past but he actually has a nice forehand as well, consistent and powerful.

I do play more aggressive at times, but I am a lot better at grinding than attacking. So when I play to win I stay with consistent play. You are right it is exhausting, but I can still go for three sets plus I enjoy the workout.

Ya a lot of people don't realize that those shots when hit well can be effective, my problem is if I don't catch them good they can be a weak sitter. I need to hit them solid more consistently.

He is a good player and can rip off both wings. He is a much more aggressive player than I am, but that is more his style plus he is a lot better at it.

I think that is all about precise footwork, the small steps can help you get into a better position to hit solid shots more often.

i know what u mean... as soon as my match gets close I tend to go into push mode

I will hit out a few games and then back to push mode if the set is close

A good 4.5 player will do the opposite and try to always win the match not lose it

Both of u guys are very consistent and I am guessing it takes u a full hour to even finish a set lol

Sometimes we can take at least 45 minutes, but other times we play more aggressive and it can be under a half hour.

Do u play on a 4.0 team or any tourneys ??

I play in a 4.0 league in the summer, have not played indoor league tennis in the last couple of years. I have found some indoor tournaments that I may play in this winter.

Ahh ok
My sister and many of my nieces and nephews live a few miles from Cubs

Chicago is a superb downtown but I don't like the weather and it's way too expensive
They play at famous midtown

Midtown is nice, that is where some of the tournaments are held.

Midtown is the only tennis club that I have been to that has over 30 indoor courts.

At 1:40 of the video I noticed another good shot I made while pulling back. I know it is not ideal but it is another example of being able to hit a good shot even though my weight is going back.

I remembered who your strokes reminded me of:
Bobby Ginepri - a little bit of a similar motion, though his elbow is a lot more tucked in on the fh, and the RH path isn't as extreme:

I agree with these observations. I would not play so many moonballs, and I would try to come forward and take the ball out of the air. Play more aggressive and put pressure on your opponent. Overall, looks like a fun match and good workout.

Yesterday I kept on moonballing against a high school junior girl and lost 2-6, 2-6. But I got passed whenever I came to the net, so I don't know what else I could have done.

My buddy in the white shirt does play aggressive, but I play more of a grinding style.

There are moon balls and then there are heavy top spin looping shots that kick up quickly. There is a big difference in how they effect your opponent.

Robby does have the abbreviated take back.

Tlm does not use his shoulders nearly as much which is the big difference. Both players have really great consistency, but everything in the op video is rolled in with a few exceptions. A lot of chances were passed up on both sides. This reminds me of an easy practice session

It might be what you call a practice session style but that is
the way I play.

My friend goes for more aggressive shots. If I showed the entire set you would see a lot more risky aggressive shots being used by both of us.

But I showed mostly longer points in the video, but there were plenty of quick attacking points that were only a couple shot along.

I have noticed that on this site most players are really into attacking aggressive style tennis. But I win most of my matches by playing consistent tennis and only attacking on high % shots.

There is a difference between attacking tennis and pressure tennis. I am in the camp that you should be consistent, but not at the expense of pressure on your opponent. This is why I mentioned a "practice session" in my post above. There are so many instances where you or your buddy could have put pressure on each other if you went for a little bit more. Instead you went for consistency and prolonged the rally. Much longer than it could have been.

I get it, that's not your game and it's unlikely that you will change. But being consistent at the expense of pressure will only take you so far and will wear you and your body down quicker in the long run.

Your right there is a fine line between being consistent and putting enough pressure on your opponent.

I have been working on being more aggressive believe it or not and continue to practice hitting more aggressive shots.
But I have won a lot of matches were I only hit a few winners and my opponent hits many more Than I do but also makes a lot more errors.

I don't think any of us should be worrying about wearing our bodies out - afterall we play for enjoyment and workout. I do love hitting a winner though - the ultimate tennis high ... I don't get the same satisfaction with my opponent missing . . .

I agree with both your points I enjoy the workout from tennis and that is why I don't mind playing long points, but hitting a clean winner is the best feeling.

Nothing wrong with that - you shouldn't apologize for it. You know your game and your limits. And you accurately claim the right level - that's 4.0 tennis.

Ya I shouldn't sound like I am apologizing for my style that is basic 4.0 level play. But there are some guys that have a big serve or forehand and can have good success playing aggressively. Even though they still make a lot of errors if they are on their game enough they will win.

So even at 4.0 level the aggressive game can be successful. I know it is more popular to go for bigger shots or rush the net and be more aggressive. I used to play more aggressive and go for big shots a lot more often, and at times I did okay. But once I started playing better competition I found that I would lose more than I would win. So like you say I play within my limits but will continue to work on being able to attack better.
