Not really objectively weak anywhere in terms of their primes.

I mean - they’ve all won and been in multiple finals on all surfaces over and over in their careers.

Fed and Novak are historically the 2nd or 3rd best clay counters over the last 20 years.

Nadal’s killed it on HC, his indoor stats are still competitive and he’s won the greatest ever match on grass.

Vienna's ATP 500 became a total piece of crap since Thiem got successful. 95 % glory hunters. More an stupid "Heeey Domi, let's make party!!!" event than a real tennis tournament.

Djokovic is going to be wound up frustrated and irritable and come Australia as defending champion all that will again cause him to unravel. He is resembling Jim Courier in 1993.
There is another bit of symmetry. Courier read a book at WTF, at the time he said it kept him calm. Djokovic has visited energy pyramids.
Im happy he is playing Vienna as it makes event way more watchable but if i had been him id have skipped events until O2. As you say if he does not win vienna he will play Paris and that tension just keeps rising.
Nadal i think might skip WTF. He is playing Paris as i suspect he wants his m1000 crown back.

If he crashes out of Vienna I doubt he will play Paris. He can't gain any ranking points there (unless he cares enough to maintain his M1000 lead over Nadal). He will probably reserve his remaining energies for the WTF.

The question is will Nole crash?
R32 - Krajinovic can go from zero to hero as he showed against Thiem and Djokovic at Adria this year. Very good chance he could be healthy and lets not forget Krajinovic no joke on indoor hard.
R16 - just made St. Petersburg final and delusional enough to have once thought himself the next Djokovic; potentially a grueling match and these empty stadiums are cooler and playing quite slow making for potentially more time consuming matches. Both matches in Belgium SF's today were well over three hours each.o_O
QF - Schwartzman is proven on these courts and just made final in Cologne with Zverev; it doesn't get more grueling than that.
SF - Tsits or Shapo - in form Shapo might be the more grueling with Tsits the more dangerous
F - Medly or Thiem - kind of the cherry on top:-D

I've triple backflip jinxed myself into a Nole romp through said players? Or have I jinxed the whole field into none of these players making the final 4? What have I done?:eek:

Man he barely got by Mugista Agut and RaoMug at Cincy earlier this year; wouldn't be so sure on best of three where its much easier to upset a top player.;)

Timmy can't lose here as he's already got 500 points from last year and frankly should have skipped event to make a run at Paris which could get him temporarily ahead of Nadal in the rankings before WTF points drop off and a career high of #2. Needless to say #2 seed for Auz would be huge for Timmy.

To be thoroughly Sureshsian you would identify Li’l Thiemmie as the one with the elegant strokes, who you feel will not win.

Im not sure Djokovic is thinking clearly. Get impression he needed to get back on court asap. He is in no danger of losing no.spot this yeat. Another 500 points wont make much difference.

Well Novak of course is the target of my Sureshian wrath and the claim that he would have won US Open hands down in 2020, so had to go with inelegant strokes.:laughing:

As far as Tim goes I'd be completely fine with him losing first round and being fresh for Paris where I do care greatly about his results. But I do hope he finds the motivation to want to fight as hard as possible to make a final with Novak and prove himself again on home soil. Here is Tim's chance to bring the US Open type performance home to Austria.

To me its a rather amazing tournament with such a quality small field. Almost like some of the big Pro Slams in the amateur era like the French Pro from 1959-1963. Just the best in a very small field of 16 back then at their biggest. Wemblely Pro was big too.
