Hahaha! I was going to say 5 years! He's not moving well is he!

not really doing anything well. But w/e he's 59 not everyone is gonna be like Mac or Connors keeping it up at that age. Takes nothing away from how awesome of a player he used to be

Well, I went to Don Budge's tennis camp in 74' as I recall. He was 59 at the time. And, I can tell you that his groundies were as good or better than anyone in the World. And his serve was still world class, too. In practice sets, his D1 coaches could barely get games off of him.

I used to play recreationally with a huge Vilas fan, he would scream out Vilas at the top of his voice if he hit a good shot that ended the point anyway. He was also right handed and a serve and volleyer

Yeah¡ lots of churrascos inside ...but that is normal for an argentinian or brasilian of his age and good position...

Is he still chasing ladies as he did in his good days ? Look at Nastase, a close friend of him.

I heard he sold his apartment in Avenue Foch, Paris and in the Cote D´Azur, and now "just" holds Mar del Plata, B´Aires and Bariloche.

That's why he didn't come any more at the French ?

He was dissapointed with the french public because they booed him and prefered Wilander to win the final they played each other back in 1982

Yes, it was absurd because it was the last chance for Vilas to win a Grand Slam, and Wilander was 17. I didn't understand french public this day. But Vilas came in the French every year to play the legend tournament, so if he didn't come the 2 last years, it's not for this reason !

May be he´s ran out of money...

I remember Vilas long time girlfriend, Daniela, a beautiful painter...

Vilas today, 59 years old. Except the first one, the backhand is always great to see.

What NTRP rating would you give his strokes?

Well, I read that Don Budge is on most sportswriters' short list for Greatest Tennis Player of All Time. The other candidates mentioned were Bill Tilden, Elsworth Vines, Jack Kramer, and Pancho Gonzales. (Of course, only those sports writers who saw them play are qualified to have an opinion on this question.)
