Volkl advisory thread.

Ok. Thanks for the information.

I really like Volkl tennis racquets. I have only hit with the Vsense V1 Pro. It was however a really great racquet and despite having a 66 stiffness rating (strung) it was very comfortable.

I will most likely buy the next V-Cell V1 Pro as soon as it is released.

There is for sure some kind of "sweetspot" with regards to stiffness. Too flexible and lacks power and stability (for lighter racquets)': too stiff and will lack feel and will lead to sore arms and shoulders.

Thnx for your answer :) i thought frames lose their strength after couple of years, but that isnt the case than? Frames look good, no cracks etc, I have loads of grommets and bumpers left so i could use them longer?
Ah yes. I took out my head radicals. Strung them. New grommets and grips.
They still feel the same after 27 years. However they havent been used as a bar fight tool. I think that can settle your question?

I have been playing with my V-sense 325 with 3 grams at 12 and overgrip. And my head radical tours. Both 12 oz ++ heavy clubs. Now these have a place obviously. But the other day i looked at my Super G 10-295 with one (1!!) gram at 12. Strung with hyper G 17 at 22 kg. Overgrip. Its one thing to THINK what you need in a racquet but another thing is what’s actually necessary for your game. I could punch hardballs the whole session standing at the baseline and nog get tired from swinging at the fences with the other racquets. The super G 10 has a bigger racquet head than the vsenses. 10 mm across and 5 length bigger. So it almost feels like a 100 in comparison. 319 grams which is 11.15 oz strung with overgrip. No damper. The super g is so plush it doesn’t need one. And it doesn’t need massive lead treatments. It’s more powerful than vsense for sure. In a good way.
Result was that my opponent had to run around the court and this racquet suited my new style of play much better. Sublime feel and sooo good!

so if i want to try other racquets in this vein (specs), what would you recommend that feels like this and what would that be? Gravity MP? Phantom 100x? Prestige tour? I like feel racquets with some flex at least. Don’t like babolats.

and newer volkls seem so stiff.

If I was looking for a replacement for the SG 10 295 but I would give the TF40 315 a go, maybe a Head Prestige Pro or an Angell L7 Lime or Red. The Phantom 100x is a good choice as well but will need a little lead to make it feel more stable. Gravity MP would be OK as well.

I'm in need of some advice. So my previous stick was the Volkl Organix Super G 10 325g. Leather grip, dampner, they sit at a cool ~360 static weight and played really well. Something in the handle of one of them cracked a few months back, and so I decided it was time to go hunting for new frames since I'd had these for about five years. I settled on the 360+ Prestige Pro, but in the last month or so I've started to regret my decision. The smaller head size is really punishing me against strong players, and I've yet to land on a string setup I like that doesn't hurt my arm.

I've been testing a few other options recently, but I busted out my one good Super G 10 tonight, strung with very old gut+poly, and it still just played superbly. Everything was deeper and heavier than with my prestiges. I've gone digging and it seems like they don't make this stick anymore. What are old Super G 10 325g players using these days? Is the C10 pro a reasonable replacement? When I initially got fresh frames, I assumed I'd be able to find something new and exciting, but now I kind of just want to get something as close to my old sticks as possible.

Check out the new Volkl V-Cell 10 320. I have played with Volkl for years and I love this racket. The specs look similar to your Super G 10, and it may be new and exciting and close to your racket. It is worth a demo.

And Kay, you could probably get the handles looked at and have them refurbished as long as the problem is something to do with the pallet or butt cap.
The C10 will definitely give you the comfort that you miss from your SG 10MP and the weight but in a lower powered manner especially that your SG have leather grips.
What other racquets have you tried and what grip
size do you normally use?

I did consider it, but it seems like a bit more a spin oriented frame? Lower swingweight, higher stiffness etc. Can't hurt to demo though.

Yeah, I think I'll pull the grip off and have a look at the frame that's suffering. Maybe it's fixable.

So the C10 is lower powered than the SG10? Did they just kill that particular line of racquets all together and not replace it with anything? I'd put leathers on my new racquet too, since I like the more headlight balance and the texture of the grips.

I don't necessarily need a Volkl replacement. I was just curious what users of the SG10 325 moved to. Could be any brand.

I tested fairly extensively. Lots of Head sticks, the new Rad Pro, the Prestige Pro (which I landed on, as mentioned), Gravity Pro, Speed Pro. Technifibre RS315, which I quite liked, but didn't get enough time with. A few babolats (hurt my arm). A few yonexs (mostly vcores and vcore pros) which were all okay, but felt kind of aenemic to me and none really impressed.

I want to try the Head Extreme Tour, which is much lighter than my SG10, but apparently a great comfortable frame that can be customised well.

I've never really given Wilsons a shot. Partially because of their QC issues. Nor have I tried any Prince sticks.

All I know is I want a headsize 98-100in, because this 95 is really giving me trouble against big hitters (4.5/5.0). Not too stiff either, and I guess a little hint of power in the frame, but nothing on the level of a pure drive?

The 65 stiffness rating of the SG 10, firmer head, and 325g weight plus leather grip should give you more firepower than a C10 but the difference is less so with the current C10 because it’s SW is higher than earlier versions and the stiffness has been upped to 64. The C10 would be harder work but once you get used to it you would manage especially if you like to attack.
I have switched from the SG 10 to C10 and other frames with good success. You can get a Volkl 10 Tour Pro spec Almagro. Pro Kennex Q Tour 325 is a viable option and Angell TC 97 in a 330g weight is viable.

No post Super G 10 feels remotely like the allmighty plush Super G10-325. I would go for the C10 pro. It is a smidge heavier but plush and rock solid. And closest to the Super G 10 you have.

I'm really torn right now about staying with the C10. It is a heavy frame and and absolute beast. When I have my A game going, it's great.. The handle is the older Volkl grip shape, which I have adjusted to except I continue to spray my 1HBH more than with any other frame. One of my Melbourne's cracked so I had to finally retire her.( Rest in Peace my Love), I was able to salvage the Attiva Pallet which works well for me from the Melbourne and am tinkering with the idea of changing the grip on the C10 to the Attiva. If I do this and love it, then I am stuck with the problem of not being to get any additional pallets for future frames, but I will have a frame I can use in match play, more easily than how it is now. I think I'll give it a go and see how it works out. I'm down to 2 Melbourne's and I really am still hoping the C10 will be a suitable upgrade. I can't find a Gravity pro to demo, which by Spec, looks perfect for me, but I am not buying any frames without demoing any more. I use a 5/8 and a 1/2'grip and they seem to be tough to get rid of these days. I tried a pure strike 16 x 19 the other day and it was not bad, but not solid enough to switch to.

Update. Was at my local tennis shop and i thought my Super g 10 looked big in comparison to the racquets on the wall. We compared. Headsize was slightly bigger than head speed 100 sq inch. And almost the same size as a pure drive. Way larger than radical 98”. Super G 10 is NOT a 98”. Its a 100”

Has anybody heard anything from Volkl in terms of what they are doing with their 10 Mid series? Would love to see a remake of the SG 10 Mid 330g version with the V throat and 22mm beam in the 96 head. It was a very lively mid.

The Super G 10 Mid's and V-Sense 10 Mid were both released in the month of November if I recall correctly. The V-1 series get's release around the time if the US Open. I have been playing with Volkl 10's since 2004 and the Super G Mid 320 is still my main frame but I am likely switching to the V-Cell 9. It has a larger head and is thicker than what I have been using but I have been pleasantly surprised with it's performance and feel. I trade some control for a little more power, and help when on the defensive. I thought I might take the V-Cell 10 300 and add some weight but the V-Cell 9 has been working so great for me without mods I may stick with it. V-Cell seems to have similar feel and power level to the Super G line but I also like how Volkl has made the frames just a bit wider in strategic spots as the frames feel very stable in stock form, even with modest swing weights. They are stiff frames but comfortable and I play with a full bed of poly strings.

It's been a long time. Hope you're well. I demoed the V-Cell 10 320 and liked it a lot. I mean a lot, but it's still on the cusp of what I consider too stiff. I've wondered about the V-Cell 10 300; have you hit it? I'm currently splitting time between a PK Black Ace Pro and Wilson Ultra Pros with a nod to a pair of V-Feel V1 Pros here and there. I think PK has become my new 'Volkl.' My son does has five V-Sense 10 Tours. I'm with you in that they play pretty comfortable for their stiffness, and I do love the Volkl head shape the most. Hope the V-Cell 9 works out for you. Take care!

Took the attiva pallets off of one of my dead Melbournes and put them on the C10 pro. This grip I am used to and like better than the old box grip on the C10 pro. I am hoping that I will find my range better on my 1HBH now that the grip matched my other Melbournes. I am playing tomorrow and am eager to see if there is any difference in control.

I recently acquired this apparently rare animal: A C6 Pro. Not much info on this stick to be found, I wonder if any Völkl expert around here knows a thing or two about it.
Mold-wise, this looks to me like the C9 Comp: 98in², 22mm straight beam. Unstrung weight is 285g (with plastic on the grip).

i had been collecting Volkl's for a number of years. I did have one of the C6's many years ago. I liked the racquet a lot. I just could not find any information this racquet. I hope you are enjoying it.

Thanks; I haven't been hitting the courts as much as I'd like lately, and I have to admit this one (C6 Pro) is not high on my list of frames I want to play with (when I get to play again) - I haven't even strung it up and will move it as soon as someone wants to take it off my hands.

The C6 was not my cup of tea. It just looked really nice but lacked the depth I needed to get from my frames when I was playing matches. It was a nice hitting frame just to hit around with when I was hitting with friends or family.

Hey there! Great to see that you are still here and I hope all is well with you too! I have not been on in a long time and had said to myself that I have enough rackets but then I was intrigued by what I was hearing about the V-Cell line. I skipped V-Feel but with V-Cell it looks like Volkl lowered the RA a bit and dampened shock. I have tried the V-Cell 10 300 and the V-Cell 9 is what I purchased. I appreciate the extra power and forgiveness of this frame and I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I have. I enjoy and am used to playing with oval head shaped frames and I agree with you that ProKennex and some Prince frames are the new arm-friendly frames with a more traditional feel. I still think that Volkl does a good job with their dampening technologies but their frames are now modern and firm.

Others may know better but it seems like Volkl went modern when they moved from the PB line to the Organix line with the higher RA. Then with Super G they introduced the super G grommets, new handle and pin, and increased the power and dampening. With V-Sense they lowered the RA's and brought back more feel. Then with V-Feel they increased the RA again but no longer had the same handle and pin that the Super G series had, so that line felt harsher. Now with V-Cell they added more dampening material. V-Cell feels a lot like Super G to me but the frames are slightly thicker in certain areas, and more stable.

I still play with my old Tour 10's and C'10's (but not in matches). As I am older now and slower, and often playing against people younger with their heavy spin, I am appreciating a little more help from my frames. I still have a PK Redendo 18x20. That was a great frame but so low powered compared to what I play with these days.

Good luck with your Black Ace Pro and Wilson Ultras.

16 x 19 just is not working for me. I have always used 18 x 20 and continue to struggle with any 16 x 19 frame I try. I picked up a 18 x 20 V7 blade and immediately gelled with it. anyone interested in a like new c10 pro 5/8 for a song, DM me. It just sits in my closet.

Recently picked up a pair of 2019 C10 Pros after being out of the game for 10 years. Chose to switch from my trusty "bottle" Babolat Pure Controls as the stiffness isn't great for my arms / elbow. My uncle had fish scales a while back and my brother had tour 10s which were all great. Basically all other racquets I considered were too stiff, too expensive ($280 for a pro staff?), or had 18 mains which I've never had a good experience with.

So far, the C10's have proven to be a good choice - currently strung w/ 1.30 cyclone tour at 57 lbs. They feel plush and stable despite not using a dampener. They're an absolute dream at net. My shoulders and elbows feel great. The two frames, which I didn't pay for any matching service, feel very close to one another (no formal measurements). However, I am disappointed to report that the black paint by the grommets has already started to chip away. I've played literally 5 times for, at most, 2 hours each time while swapping between the two frames. While they play fine, this paint job is just sad considering that the C10 pro is their flagship.

But overall, I'm glad to be back on the courts with a great racquet.

Great to hear you're enjoying the C10 Pro. Great racquets. I have not tried the 2019 version, however, I have 2 of the older versions (fish scale, and bumblebee), an Xtended C10 Pro (which I think is a Bumblebee), and the 2012 mostly black with some yellow version. All are glossy paint and have been great when it comes to quality and no paint chipping. Maybe look to find some of those on the second-hand market. Plenty of them going around.

The Volkl tour 10 MP strung with ALU power string made me a Volkl brand fan (I could feel the racket flex and strings stretch and snap back in place after each hit ... it was heavenly). Now I play with a super G 325.

I have played with 10 PB MP and 10PB L customised. Really nice rackets. After PB I didn’t look to get new Völkl frames without 18x20 string patterns.
Now, thinking to get C10 Pro. Not for matches but just to have this legendary frame.

Anyone here has tried or know anyone who has played with the new Volkl V-Cell V1 Pro racquet? I was about to buy it when it was released but twisted my ankle and am still recovering......and did not pull the rigger yet, but very keen on the racquet (except the color...:)

I played for two years with the V-sense version and really liked it. Only drawback that I remember was the slight lack of power and stability. However the past year I switched to multifilament strings due to "golfers elbow" and have learnt to like multifilaments.

I think (and hope) that the new V-cell V1 Pro with multifilament strings might be just what I need.....good power but with decent feel due to the thin beam in the middle. It also has a slightly more dense string pattern in the middle so perhaps a string such as the Triax will not move around like crazy.....?

It seems to have similar specs like the V-sense version with a lower swing weight than the V-feel version, but slightly higher stiffness (stiffness: V-sense 66, V-cell 68, strung). Tennis Warehouse Europe doesn't seem to have a demo version yet so I might have to buy it without trying it beforehand.

so I restrung my c10 pro with Poly mains and a multi cross just to see if I would like it any better than using full gut. I really like this frame but gave up on it because I played very erratically with it compared to My Melbournes. I strung this at 54lbs poly hurricane mains and a wilson sensation also at 54#. I found control was better, but comfort was still very good. I played in the wind today the c10 pro produces a heavier ball that cut thru the wind better than my lighter melbournes. Since I couldn't find any buyers for this frame, which only has 4 hrs of play on it, I will keep it in my bag and continue to fool around with set ups. Plays very much like the RF 97 but more flexy.

Have you tried the C10 strung at higher tensions, 57+ lbs? I currently string w/ cyclone tour 16’s at 57 lbs but thinking of going lower but I’m not sure how lower tensions would work w/ how flexible it is.

So which frame are you trying to get rid of?

Lower tension in this racquet never worked well for me. Too powerful at lower tensions, like a trampoline.

Played indoors yesterday and decided to play the first set with my Melbourne, second set with the Volkl. I have gotten my strokes dialed in pretty good with the Volkl now and can easily switch back and fourth between frames. My opponent immediately noticed how much harder and faster my shots were coming in on him with the Volkl. He is a strong 40 year old 4.5 and although he beat me fairly easily (3 & 3), he thought I played very well, with many long rallies and lots of running. My movement has really come back well since I got my hip replaced last year. I'll be 61, this January, I am happy that I am still playing singles at above a 3.5 level. I did not serve on ace with my Becker, but was able to serve 4 in the second set with the Volkl. I Like playing indoors for a number of reasons, the main one being that there are no variables to contend with and I can really hear the ball come off of the string bed. I was pleasantly surprised at how solid the C10 is and I have tried many frames over the summer and nothing, except the Yonex vcore 330 and the RF 97 come close to how solid and plush this fame is. No vibrations, and if my footwork is good , I can really crush the ball with minimal effort. You don't have to swing this frame hard at all to produce pace which is nice. Ironically I get a lot more topspin with my melbournes, but that is probably because my swing path with those is so dialed in after 10 years of using them, that i probably just have to get better acquainted with the c10 a little more.

Basil, Have you stayed with poly m and multi cross or gone back to full gut? Have you added any weight to the head for stability? I am going through a similar process with the c10 pro, but still in the experimentation stage on strings etc. Love the effortless pace it generates with an easy swing and the accuracy.

My on and off again love affair with Volkl is once more on the upswing. I do enjoy the 93" 18x20 narrow beamed Tour 10s, even the V-Engine. However, I am also enjoying the Tour 10 MPs 98" 18x20, more even than the C10 Pro. I'm pretty sure at this stage in my tennis playing life if I was limited to only playing with Volkl Quantum rackets in 18x20 I would be satisfied. Having said that I do garner some good laughs playing with the cornucopia of other sticks I swing by Spalding, Wilson, Prince, Head, etc. But there is something about swinging a narrow beamed Quantum that really appeals to me. P.S. note the 2d racket from the right. It is a Tour 10 MP. I got it cheap off the auction site as it was covered in grime, near perfect grommets and head guard but oh so dirty. My tried and true solution? Goof Off. This is the first time Goof Off took off the paint:) Pretty cool though, a "stealth" Quantum Tour 10 MP.

I am back to full gut at 58# 16 G. I do find that days I am not at 100% this frame can really punish you. I am putting one up on the for sale section because I don't see myself using this as my main stick, just not playing enough to get the most out of this gem of a frame.
