Volkl cyclone 16 or 19g?

I currently use a Pure Aero with Hyper g 17g at 56lb. I want to try out cyclone, but I'm not sure if I should get the 16g or 19g. Which do you guys prefer? And also at what tension?
Ps: I know there was a Playtest thread on the 19g but since it's gone I made a new thread.

...or 17g or 18g? My favorite is 17g/1.25 black, the 16g seems way stiffer with less pocketing and the 18g wasn't as good for me all around. All strung in PS97 around 54#. I haven't used Hyper G but have run through Revolution and STB...STB in 1.20 is right behind the Cyclone.

Hmm I doubt cyclone 19 would last long in your pure aero. I'd say go with the 18 first and if it breaks to early or doesn't fit you go to 17? I heard 16 wasn't as good either.

I'm not concerned about durability, I've had my hyper g on for 3 months now, but which one do you think plays the best? Preferably 16x 19 racket.

The good news is that TW has Cyclone for $7.99, if you string your own it's inexpensive enough to try 'em all. I think there's a noticibly diff from 16 to 17g in a 16 X 19, ymmv.

I too prefer the 1.25mm.

I was curious about the 19 gauge, so I have it in one of my 6.1 95 18x20s now. After only a couple of hours string movement is pretty bad. That's a first actually.
Not impressed, but to be fair I prefer round poly strings in that frame, no contest. FWIW, YMMV etc.

I generate more spin with the cyclone regular than the cyclone tour.
However, the cyclone regular hurts my arms so I went back to cyclone tour.

If you want more spin and your arms can take it, use cyclone regular.

Oh all the descriptions on TW makes it look more appealing. Does the regular version have good tension maintenance? @Matthew Lee, Hyper g maintains tension very well.

Look at the downsides on the 19g review, "Less control than a traditional polyester" I had the 19g in the Pure Aero for several months at tensions from 51-55lbs. I was hooked on the ball pocketing. The Aero has a generous sweet spot already, except when I combined it with Cyclone 19g. For me it made the sweet spot just the tiny ball pocketed area and when I'd hit outside it the ball sprayed everywhere, usually long. I had two of the Aero's strung with Cyclone in an attempt to keep one I could use. Cyclone 19g messed me up big time. It was my own fault, hooked on the pocketing. I should have bailed on it way, way sooner. Tension dropped like a brick so I never knew if it was me or the Cyclone.

I have the 19 gauge in my Pure Aero right now. I've played two sets of doubles and then hit for about an hour. The strings are heavily notched and I anticipate breaking them probably the next time I hit. I've liked the string, but I think the durability in a Pure Aero (which is a string eater) could be a problem.

I agree with the other posters. Cyclone 19 was definitely a fun string to try out and mess around with but it just didn't have the most solid feel. Also in my xt speed pro, which probably has one of the most closed string patterns, it was heavily notched pretty quickly. Launch angle was very high too

19g last couple of hours then became very erratic. I would not use it in anything other than 18x20. 16g is definitely much more solid, less powerful lasts longer but will be stiffer. Id do it in Pure Aero @55/53 lbs and see how it works. If it works out well perhaps manipulate the tension 2lbs up or down, if you hate it move down to 17g or perhaps to another string alltogether.

In a pure aero I would do 16G for sure. That thing eats string and you do not need extra spin from string

After two sets of doubles and about 5 hours of hitting, the 19g is done. Broke the strings hitting this morning. They needed to break sooner, it became really powerful and hard to control. It's an interesting string, but I will not put it back in the Pure Aero. Back to a thicker string for me.

I actually tried a 20 g once from solinco. it felt pretty good and gave me a lot of bite on the ball .... but as soon as I started hitting hard, it snapped within just a few hours....

My take, go as thin as your string breakage rate will allow.
