Volkl Cyclone 18L or RPM Blast 18

#1
Hi everyone... I can get a reel of cyclone 18L or a reel of rpm blast 18 for roughly the same price. What do you thing about both strings? What should be my choice if both cost me the same. I usually play with and hybrid of VS gut 16 Main / rpm 17 crosses but during winter that is not an option... a couple of wet balls and the gut is over, that why I am looking for an full bed of poly for my backup racket during the winter months. Thanks.

Me, I not like either - but we all are different...
always try a set of each before you jump into a reel and be sure you can live with for 16 plus times...
note, both a shaped strings with will take some extra wear off the the n gut. Alone..your call...
But bottom line, a copoly anywhere is only going to last about 12 hours anyway....
so it really, what works best for you...

note: thinner strings can go dead even faster....

It's all based on personal preference. My preference is Cyclone; it is one of my favorite strings that I've used. If you are going for a full bed of poly I'd go for Cyclone. If you were planning to still hybrid with gut, I'd say neither because of their edges, but RPM's edges aren't as sharp as Cyclone's I believe so I'd say RPM. These days the coating on gut like VS does a pretty good of allowing it to last in less-than-ideal weather conditions. If you've tried it and it doesn't work, by all means go away from it during the winter, but if you haven't actually tried the gut in the winter before or in a long time, then I'd give it a shot.

But, like CopolyX said, personal preference is key. I'd try both and see which you like better. My vote would be Cyclone though.

I use the Cyclone 18L/19g for full bed. It's a great string but I break them in under 8 hrs usually. Tried RPM 18 but did not like the lack of feel, which increased as the string aged.

If you are hitting heavy balls, 18L may have a very shortened life. The thinner gauge may give you that extra oomph, but will snap earlier too.

RPM vs Cyclone really depends on what you want. RPM Blast is stiffer, has less feel and when it loses tension, feels more board like. Cyclone is softer, a bit more power, feel and spin, but loses tension a little faster.
