volkl cyclone tour replacement

Hi guys,
I am currently using volkl cyclone tour in 16 gauge, and I wanted to know if anyone can recommend a blue polyester string that is comparable to cyclone tour in terms of power and softness. Thanks for your help.

I should have caveated that I have not played it- based on string database. I have played Poly Tour Pro and found it very comfortable (if that helps)

Solinco Revolution. I am a former CT 16G user, tried Revolution 16G and never went back. Better tension maintenance, way more control, more spin, better feel despite being stiffer on paper.

Love Volkl Cyclone Tour, but love Tourna Big Hitter Blue 17 better. It seems to have more pop and not harsh on the elbow at all to me.

Yonex Poly Tour Spin?
Poly Tour Spin is nothing like CT.

Much stiffer, much crisper, harder on the arm etc. It's also edged, whereas CT is a twisted, soft, comfortable, springy sort of poly.

Like the person above mentioned, Tourna Big Hitter Blue Rough would be a better comparison. Quadro Twist would be another worth considering.

Thanks for the recommendation. How would you say Luxilon Alu power or power rough compares?

Solinco revolution is a nice muted spin string. Perhaps not as soft and powerful as cyclone tour but wouldn't say it's very stiff or jarring either. Also topspin cyber blue is a very smooth blue and soft. Maybe tourna big hitter blue too but I've never used it

If you're looking at Topspin Cyber Blue and you'd like to see an upgrade, check out Kirschbaum Pro Line Evolution. Similar but more bite and pre-stretched. Cyber Blue is nice too and cheaper, just not as much bite and feel as PLE.

I have reels of both VCT 16g (six reels to be exact), Solinco Revolution 16L (1.25mm), and Lux Alu Power 16L. I have asked multiple 4.0 and 4.5 guys to try Solinco Revolution. None have switched. I am simply trying to get rid of a reel Revolution that doesn’t sell.

Additionally, I have done the following experiment with two 4.0 guys and one 4.5 player. I string three of their same frames and ask them to hit singles and doubles with all three frames. One strung with Alu Power 16L, one Revolution 16L, and one VCT 16. I tell them nothing about the strings. Nothing.

All three picked Volkl Cyclone Tour 16g over Revolution 16L and Lux Alu Power 16L. VCT 16g plays much closer to ever 1.25mm string and 16g Revolution is stiffer than 1.25mm Revolution.

Solinco Revolution is a great string IMO, but just a bit too stiff for my elbow. I had two 4.0 guys using Pure Drives and a 4.5 using Pure Control Tour who all choose VCT 16g after their play-test of three strings. Perhaps all three guys simply like the softer feel of VCT, as it certainly feels softer to me and then which matches the TW Database on it’s stiffness rating. None of the three knew what string I use or what the other players choose.

Volkl V-Torque. Its less durable but pockets better. Personally, I also like Yonex Air string. Its spiny for a smooth poly, but not as much as Cyclone Tour.

V-Torque 16g snaps in 6 sets max. Just doesn’t work for me but if they made it in a 15g, it might work better .

Had another guy text me last night requesting the Solinco Revolution 16L / Volkl Cyclone Tour 16g poly/poly hybrid I did for his teammate.

The Revolution / VCT Hybrid was done trying to increase the string life in a 16x15 Steam 99S for a player who doesn’t like Lux 4G in any flavor. Will be swapping him over to 16g Revolution / 16 Cyclone Tour when my reel of 16L Revolution runs out.

Interesting experiment, and not what I expected. You can't argue with the data :)

I use multi/multi hybrids (Head FXP Is a great cross), Gut/Poly, Poly/Poly and smooth 17g Poly / 15g multi ( a 4.5 guy using Head Hawk 17g / Prince Premiere Control 15)

+1 I much preferred the V-Torque to the Cyclone Tour. Great spin and I liked the feel much better. Nice blue colour :) I am thinking of hybriding it with Cyber Blue as a cross

Diadem Solstice Power. Big spin, soft feeling, good power and doesn't have that plasticky feel that cyclone tour has.

1.28mm V-Torque lasts me 6-7 sets before snapping compared to 4-5 weeks for 1.30 mm Cyclone Tour. I would classify myself as a average string breaker.

I string about 50 frames a month mostly for 4.0 and 4.5 USTA rated men and wouldn't even consider V-torque 1.28mm for these men. I still have 9 packs of 16g / 1.28 mm Blue V-torque and struggle to find a use it for with clients that trust me.

Perhaps 3.0 / 3.5 women who demand poly. [emoji848]

Shoot I'll try them if you want to get rid of them, happy to pay for shipping. I've been on a search for a new poly lately. Just finished a reel of revolution 17.

Shoot me a pm with your name & address. I can mail Monday.

It won't last nearly as long as Revolution 1.25mm / and certainly not as long as a 1.30mm Revolution.

Thanks! Pm sent. I’m not a string breaker so not as concerned with durability as much as feel and playability.

V-torque is the one with the little indentations in the string right? If so, I remember my buddy, who is not really a string breaker, busting those pretty quickly.

I just can say that V-Torque Tour‘s durability is ok, but certainly not outstanding. However, when I break strings I also have the feeling that it‘s time to change strings, therefore I dont really mind.
