Volkl Grip Pallet Change-out Procedure to Change Racquet Grip Size

I use the old pallet to measure the length, mark the new pallet and then use my Dremel. I've never used heat to remove a pallet, they've always come off pretty easily, but it wouldn't be a big deal if they broke since I just toss the old pallets anyway. Next I use either Shoo Goo or Rubbing alcohol to completely clean the handle of any old adhesive. Lighter fluid (Naptha) works as well.
I know lots of guys don't do this but I think it's important to have a completely clean handle when putting a new pallet on. I then use 3M spray adhesive to attach the pallets.

I am about to try this myself and if anyone has any last minute tips, I would appreciate it. I have a 1/2 PB10 that I want to make a 3/8. My biggest concern is that people say the replacement grips are a little larger than they need to be, so you have to cut them down. Which end do I trim down and what do I use?

My leaded-up Volkl BB10's, with the changed-out pallets, are still playing great. I just re-read my post and the other comments/posts above, and can't think of much else to add. Good luck, and if you feel like it, snap some photos to add in here.

Only comment is the size 5 pallets I got from TWE feel fatter than my original grip 5 frames, which is good for me actually, so crazy as it might seem, I am going to replace my grip 5 racket pallets with replacement grip 5 pallets.

It does. Volkl makes different pallets. They have a Wilson-esque pallet that you may have gotten. I think there are 4 different shapes available.

Ok, I knew there were 2 pallets, including the Attiva grips, which people buy if they can't get on with traditional Volkl shape pallets.

I keep on measuring mine and they seem to have the same circumference, but a tiny difference from 12-6 and 3-9. Nothing major, but enough to feel different. I use shrink grips and a Tournagrip as well, so you think any differences would be lost under all that, but they are not

When applying athletic tape to round-out a Volkl pallet, you apply the tape all the way from the top of the pallet to the end of the butt cap, not just just from the top of the pallet to where the pallet meets the butt cap (not on the butt cap), right? Thanks for your help!

Personally, I prefer a smaller butt cap, so I don't extend the tape there, unless I place more tape on some edges that others. If so, I extend them up through partial points on the butt, which evens out the shape. I've been doing this for years, so I know how it feels in my hand. It's somewhat intutive, or was, until I knew what felt good when spinning the stick in me hand during play, which edge of the racquet I preferred due to grip/leather wrap shape, and my grip changes between BH and FH.

I just finished rounding out my handle using two layers of athletic tape on opposite bevels. Wow. It feels like a Prince grip now, which is what I was looking for. Thanks for the help!

just replaced a pallet for the first time and it was a piece of cake. I replaced the 3/8 on my Becker London with a 1/2. I used a hair dryer to heat up the pallet a little and down inside the
shaft of the handle and the pallets pried off very easily. I didn't have a staplegun, so I just used some electrical tape around the buttcap to hold it to the handle. I trimmed the end of the pallets before I put them on with a razor blade. They cut very easily and I just used the old pallets to mark the length before I cut. The old pallet came out unscathed and could be reused very easily. Glad I gave this a shot! It was easy!

I know this is an old thread, but I found out something that may be useful to anyone swapping Volkl pallets: If you warm up the handle sufficiently (I just pointed a hair dryer down into the hollow handle for 4-5 minutes), you can slide both halves straight off the handle without any prying. There's almost no chance of cracking/breaking the pallets that way, and both halves come off as one piece you can then slide right onto another handle.

I thought I might need to heat the handle over a hot stove burner - not quite so hot as when applying a heat shrink sleeve though - but hopefully the hair dryer will be enough for removal without heavy prying.

if you can pry it open a little and direct some hot air between the pallet and the handle, it will come off easier. Just a thin knife or screwdriver works well.

Talking about volkl pallets i noticed they have a range of different pallets, do they all have the same shape? The more rectangular shape similar to Head?

The Volkl R and C pallets have exactly the same outer shape, as far as I can tell. The C pallet has a slight inner taper at the tapered end, R pallet is a completely straight hairpin. Never seen an S pallet.
