Volkl quality

For everyone that spews on and on about how good the quality at Volkl is, read this: A lady brought me her new Volkl DNX 3. The butt cap was off, hanging by the half unraveled grip. She asked if I could repair the butt cap. I looked at it. The staples were near the end of the racket, where the butt cap is thickest. The staples were the short ones, so they never reached the frame itself. When new, the butt cap was being held on only by the grip being wrapped around it. I double checked for holes to see if the staples ever went into the frame. They didn't. Hope this isn't a sign of declining quality at Volkl.

I'm not positive but I think Volkl sold their tennis brand to becker or becker is part owner or something. If you go on the Volkl website there is no link to the tennis website just skis and other equipment.
It is possible that the quality has gone down since then but I have to say I own seven Volkl rackets and they are all great quality although almost all of them are slightly older like tour10 vemid and midplus. I have taken a few of them apart to open the trap doors and regrip them and the staples were very much in the racket.
Also keep in mind that in my opinion the rackets for beginners of most brand out there are usually much lower quality because they are lighter tweener frames. They way much less and do not have to be solid like player frames. I would not really touch anything that has anything less than a 9 on it.

Steve,

"spews on an on" seems like an overly harsh comment to make and the condition of one racquet is hardly enough to suggest that an entire brand is declining in quality. So, what's behind all that aggro?

Don't you think it's most likely that the handle pallet was changed and whoever did the job (at whatever store she purchased it from) didn't properly attach the staples to the butt cap?

Personally, I've always found their top-of-the-range gear to be of a higher quality than all but the comparable Yonex and Fischer frames.

No need to get "Huffy" about this Steve ... I'm with Andrew on this, you probably ran into an after market job. Can't see Volkl suddenly using short staples and getting away from their patented systems that work extremely well. Spewuart

Guys, I have nothing at all against Volkl. I bought my wife Volkls, which she uses now. Ok, "spews on and on" might be bit harsh. But Andrew, you've been on these boards awhile, and a year or a little more back, it seems Volkl could do no wrong. The racket was brand new. I asked. Plastic was still on the handle when she got it. And for the most part, Volkl's are excellent frames. Just wanted you to know that they, like any other brand, make frames that get through QC but aren't up to par.

while frustrating and i know volkl isn't perfect, a missed staple doesn't really compare to +/- 15g, huge SW variances, and easily chipped paint.

i think every company has its flaws, but volkl's flaws are minimal in comparison to say wilson. i wouldn't be surprise if on occasion there was a bad batch that got by somehow, regardless of the brand.
