Volley grip question

Folks, a question if I may impose.
My FH and 1HBH grip i with the but cap in my palm, not below the heal of my hand.
When I change to a volley grip, should I keep the butt in my palm, or choke up a bit with the butt cap below the heal?
Basically is the constant position of the stringbed important enough to give away a little control (if any). I tend to have a loosish grip anyway.

If you grab the buttcap your grip on the racket will be a lot looser and that is not what you want for volleys.

You want to hold your racket very tight so your hand does not shake when you make contact with the ball.

I would definitely move my hand up.

I keep it in the same position. That said if you notice any instability move it up, as the previous poster says, you really don't want a loose grip on volleys

You should not choke up for volleys.

Agreed - the great volleyers historically often hit with one or more fingers off the racquet to decrease tension of their grip

For example, you would see Sampras choke up on the short put away ground stroke, but he would go way down the handle for the volleys, especially the drop volleys.

i would leave your hand at the same position as all your other strokes. no need to choke up. might feel odd or harder at the beginning, but it will come to you with practice.

Fast respnses from a very experianced bunch of posters.
Thank you, appreciated.
