Volleys, the answer to everything.

Again i will repeat that s+v is nowhere near as tiring as baseline bashing. Someone said that s+v is like sprints, that is not true. If you are sprinting to the net you are out of control. Any of the good net players i know sneak into the net, they dont sprint in.

Again YOU can't speak for everyone. It's more tiring for me. It's more tiring for other posters. The act of running towards the net - the split stepping - then running down the inevitable lob (which is what th low level players see 90% of the time) is MUCH more tiring then take a few steps to your left or right and then recovering. In fact some players use that strategy. They hit short shots - make people run in and then hit lobs over their head. Even if they lose the point the other guy eventually wears out. If your S and V your doing much of the work for this player. They don't need the short shots..

At the pro level sure - you might be onto something.. It might be less tiring but it's also not that effective.

I think that tlm just has no perspective on level of play. Outside of what he plays at, nothing exists. So, OBVIOUSLY, it's objectively more tiring for baseliners. I mean, let's not try to criticize his statement or anything.

The fact is, people are going to get worn out by different things and find different facets of the game more frustrating, hard, or tiring.

Volley isn't the answer to everything, but if you're good at it, you're going to be with an advantage in your match, regardless of level.

Okay soloaj what level of play are you talking about? I gave you a example of some 5.0 players at my club. I am 4.0 now+even when i was 3.5 it was easier on the body to come in.

If 2 players are not consistent enough to maintain rallys of at least 6- 10 shots. Then coming in could be more tiring. If a point only goes 3-4 shots, then backcourt tennis would not be very tiring.

But there is a difference in how hard the groundstrokes are. If the ball is just pushed back+forth then it isnt as tiring in a 12 shot rally, as it would be in a high pace corner to corner 8 shot rally.

So i will agree that the level does change things. As i stated earlier it also has a lot to do with what kind of groundstrokes you have. I know that with using a windshield wiper forehand+putting a lot of topspin on the ball, this alone is very exhausting. Compared to pushing or using more conventional strokes.
